bay bridge. it's no major issue, but look in the north bay. the green means mist and slicker roadways and the yellow means more, possibly some fog. we'll see that in areas as there's been a chance for the moisture to seep in as well. the bay bridge does show a general slow drive and the toll plaza has filled in. slowing through richmond, no big surprises. a little bit of rain came through here. highway 37, there's slowing and you see the green highlighting as well. now, over here, contra costa county shows a smooth drive for highway 4. there is a crash coming into pittsburg and we'll track that. but overall the general drive, we're looking at kirker pass and highway 680, just a little build as we would expect. >>> breaking news this morning, oakland police officers overnight involved in not one, but two collisions. light rain this morning continuing through parts of the bay area over into the east bay.ts of libbermore and int tracy over the next couple minutes. be careful from-of-if you have plans to head out early for the thanksgiving festivities, because we're seeing heavy rain now over interstate 5, morgan hill and gilroy. hour-by-hour, not a complete soaker of a day. getting breaks here and there. hour-by-hour, going into the mid-morning hours, still seeing a few spotty showers over the north bay. heavy at times making your way into sacramento. as the afternoon and morning goes on it will continue to lift piling on rain and snow through the mountains. giving us a chance to step outside, get those around done, and by the time dinnertime rolls around, could see light rain through parts of the east bay and further down into to livermore and gilroy. all we'll squeeze off this system. going into sunday things look clear and dry for the 49ers game, but a few things to watch out for. those temperatures are going to be very chilly. not only in santa clara, but throughout the bay area. l

it has cleared san francisco, it's moving into the east bay and parts of the north bay. but once again, you can see the activity lifting northward where the north bay will continue to see the rain through about 9:00 to 10:00. but the rest of the day it is clearing out and we are headed back to sunshine before we get some more widespread rain in tomorrow's forecast. it does look like tomorrow morning also starts out mostly dry, but some heavier rain, as well as some gusty winds will make its way back to the bay area by tomorrow evening. i'll be tracking that and we'll talk about what to expect as the rain continues off and on through saturday. >>> mike, you've got a couple of crashes on the map. >> i do. i also have some of the highlighting in green, which means maybe slick roadways where the rain came through. the first crash is south 880, it's in lanes, at least that's the report, but i don't see slowing. more slowing building out of hayward toward the san mateo bridge. we'll track that for the nimitz. on the peninsula, the bayshore freeway jams up as you're approaching

beautiful bay bridge.eorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect from this friday forecast. no matter what the forecast is, it's friday. >> it's friday. we've had such a busy week. we're still seeing some active weather across the bay area, with rain off the coast. but at least we do have our quiet start to the morning. so as we are stepping out the door, temperatures are feeling mild. but look at the activity we're going to see as we go throughout the day, staying cloudy through 8:00 to 10:00, but then showers returning around noon. and the rain will continue into the afternoon with a potential of thunderstorms later on this evening. so as we take it hour-by-hour once again, we are going to see that rain coming in and really becoming more widespread around 2:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. the evening commute we're seeing brief heavy downpours in some spots. then it continues into tonight, gradually tapering off, but there still will be the possibility of some heavy rain during early tomorrow morning i

it's going to be a tale of the north bay getting and the south bay in the inland east bay. >> not seeingof it all. it's a stubborn system and it's really just stopped moving sitting offshore to our west with that means is this view from the east bay hills actually fairly dry at the moment? we do have showers lighting up the radar further to the north. you can see how areas like the northern end of the peninsula on up, especially into sonoma, mendocino lake and even napa counties are seeing that rainfall. well, areas further south, not so much. current temperatures are in the 50's to 60's with hayward sitting at 60 degrees. oakland at 58, san francisco at 57 while petaluma sitting at 53 degrees right now. later on today, we actually dry out really nicely a good dose of sun this afternoon after these north bay morning showers leave rain. all right, john, thank you for well, we've been talking a pack and we're finally starting to see those closures today. >> on the bay bridge, you got 2 lanes down, one on the westbound one on the eastbound side. be mindful of that. we're going to see those

let's take a live look outside across the bay area this morning, from the south bay to the east bay, into san francisco. we are seeing some wet conditions this morning for the commute. >> kari has a look at the forecast. is the worst of the rain just during the morning commute? >> yeah, we are seeing the rain quickly passing by and it's been off and on as the system moves through. and it will be out of here going into the afternoon. so this is affecting the first part of our day, the evening commute is looking dry at this point. we can see a closer look at where we have spots, where it's raining, other areas where it's not. we'll have lighter showers in parts of the north bay, moving through marin county, a pretty steady rain. it's starting to taper off for san francisco and parts of the peninsula. moving over toward the east bay, hit-or-miss showers moving through, and the south bay is about to see some clearing. so if you have the nbc bay area app, you can actually get alerts as the rain approaches your location. we are going to see it drying out for this afternoon, with more rain

there, really across the bay. >> reporter: really across the bay, laura. and we've seen plywood covering, plate glass windows at stores around the bay area, and this morning we're going to find out from the governor and also the chp and district attorney brooke jenkins from san francisco whether or not all of the grants that were pumped into local communities have had an impact on retail theft crime. now, i want to show you what happened just for a few weeks now, san jose has been using their grant money to dedicate officers to work retail patrol and to identify hot spots. the santa clara county district attorney also dedicated some of their state money to a criminal investigator to just work on retail theft. now, that wasn't enough to stop this theft mob at a dick's sporting goods store on blossom hill in san jose. through video, police here in san jose were able to identify 13 suspects. according to dick's corporate office, retail crime cut quarterly profits by nearly 25%. now, you might think, that's the big guys, but what about us? this means that some

it's 8.39, in the north bay. ader woman dies in a crash that happened on highway one one in petaluma. it was yesterday afternoon at east washington street about 04:00pm that the crash happened. police say the woman was driving a honda at an unsafe speed and collided with a range rover. it was just going a few miles per hour pbecause it was stop and go traffic. the woman was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries. >> well, a car chase after a stolen suv in downtown concord ended up with the arrest of a man he's now accused of having meth and ammunition inside of that car. so the chase began sunday morning. officers tried pulling over this suv that didn't have a license plate and was driving recklessly. police say the driver identified as clinton got rolled that car into the front lawn of a home, then got out and ran off. he was arrested. investigators say when they searched the car, they found ammunition and meth inside. that car, by the way, was stolen during commercial robbery. forgot says or was on fe

widespread showers are expected from the east bay into the north bay and for our friends in the santaara valley also. this is a trend throughout most of the work week. rain chances increase until this weekend. once we head into this weekend the area of low pressure park offshore will dry up and this is what it is looking like now. within the past 12 hours we have seen rain along the california coastline to the north but the system is offshore and an area of low pressure that brings out more moisture into the next several days. keep the umbrella handy. heading into the next couple days you want that. but what is interesting today, we see drier skies in the south bay and above average temperatures into this afternoon. what does that look like? 60s near san francisco. 60s across the bay bridge into oakland. a similar trend in the north bay where they have seen most of the rain this morning. here we go into the santa clara valley. 8 degrees above average near san jose and topping off this afternoon at 75 degrees. the temperatures are not the big weather story. it is the rain. as we look a
