bailey: vietnam became the ever worse war. the contrast are certainly significant, but they also have become larger and larger avenue we have made the parallel oppositions in war. the problem with the war in vietnam in terms of conscription is that there was just way too many men. because a relatively small number of men served, those people who were drafted experienced it in a sense of unfairness. that created a certain amount of resentment. the baby boom fed into vietnam. there were 27 million men who came of draft age in the vietnam era. 2.2 million were drafted. 8.5 million volunteered and 16 million people were deferred. the common experience in the vietnam era was not military service. it was the opposite of world war ii and world war i and the opposite of korea. the fact that only 2.5 million american men were even sent to vietnam, the majority not in combat, created a very different sense of what was fair and what was not fair. some of it was the war in vietnam becoming increasingly unpopular. it also did not provide f

still bailey's crossroads is the same area. these are really slow movers.some heavy rain across part of 66. along 50. a few light showers for us in the district. we move farther north. you can see light showers around wheaton, bethesda, get to howard county and to laurel, hanging on light rain as well. that is what most of us will see. the quick hit and miss showers. a lot of them aren't moving too much so they have to rain themselves out. that is what is happening to the one there hanging closer to fairfax in arlington. run throughout the rest of the night. at 10:00, it's isolated. getting c time, most of it fizzles out. overnight we have more rain. check out wednesday. a lot of cloud cover. not a pretty day. we will hang on to the rain. better chance the farther west you live especially over toward the i-81 corridor but i still think we get rain around d.c. as well. fast forward to the fireworks. 8:00 at 83 degrees. then again, isolated thunderstorm is possible. but i think more and more of us are going to be drying out by then. still warm and very muggy.
