that peninsular refers to the baja peninsula, which which is part of mexico and really this part of californiae mexico than it is u.s., and that lizard sort of tells us that. this lizard, like many of the lizards, that we find here in southern san diego county range mostly in mexico and barely enter the united states here. looking at the lizards here gives us yet another reason why this place is so diverse, it's a mixture of what moves up from mexico and what's moving down out of the united states. but more than that it gets us to thinking about how these things actually move. are they migrating from mexico themselves or is something else going on? why are these lizards restricted to just the parts of california that came from mexico? to answer this question and to really think about migration from a totally different mindset, we need to look at an even lowlier creature, one that's not found in the desert. we need to look at salamanders. the salamanders we're after are far above us here in the desert so we head back up hill and into the cool forests above 4,000 feet elevation. so, you know how

we have been tracking a storm, a little storm that just thought it could right off the baja peninsulawe saw tropical storm kiko, popped up right around 8:00 in the evening eastern time, and then within two hours, tropical storm kiko is almost a hurricane now. which means it's getting sustained winds building up to, it's gotta be 74 miles per hour to be a hurricane, but it's working on it. it's getting there. but the thing about the storm, as we take a closer look here, a little bit on the enhanced satellite it's not going hit land, we expect it to gradually slowly move to the north, northwest and stay out in the water. but what this will also do, is continue the moisture pump for the showers and thunderstorms up in to the southwest. so the desert southwest is getting a lot of these flood warwarnings around new mexico, colorado and a lot of the moisture is come up from this pacific area, causing this to happen. now, as we look at the enhanced satellite here you'll see a lot of colors, the brightest reds and oranges are showing you where the cold cloud tops are, where all of the energy

lorena is making its way towards the southern tip of the baja, california peninsula. now, it is expected to weaken off, which is certainly good news. but you could still see 50 to 100 millimeters of rain, enough to cause some localized flooding. we also had gabrielle, if you remember, off over puerto rico. it's now a remnant low. but it's still going to be bringing some pretty heavy rain in towards parts of hispaniola as well as puerto rico over the weekend. another front here across portions of florida and in towards mexico and texas. well, most of the heavy rain is still falling off over the water. so that's certainly some good news, but it is going to be unstable here for coastal locations. up towards the northeast, the great lakes seeing some thunderstorms potentially as well after lots of sunshine. we're now seeing some unsettled conditions. and it's quite cool too. you could see some frost on the ground in the early hours of the morning. out towards the northwest another system bringing thunderstorms. some of these could be quite intense with some short periods
