more than 100 firefighters were called to the home on baker street last night. it's next to golden gate park. firefighters say it appears it started on the third floor of the home. while crews worked to put out the flames they found two older men in the house by the front door. officials say the men who were apparently trying to get out of the home were badly burned and rushed to the hospital. neighbors say the victims had spent several years restoring the home. >> christmas, very sad. very beautiful house. this couple here that lived here put a lot of work and time and love into that house. it's really sad to see this happen. i hope they are okay. >> the cause is under investigation. >> >> police in newark are asking for the public's help finding the person who broke into a family's home and stole the presents from under the tree. it happened at a house on cherry street not far from newark junior high school. the family didn't realize the gifts were gone until the children woke up and rushed to the tree. detectives believe that the robbery may be related to oth

joe baker, president of medicare rights center. dr.bob margolis, ceo of health care partners. , senior partner and managing director of the boston consulting group. your written testimony will be made part of the record. ui five minutes to summarize your testimony. mr. eakinrecognizes for a five minutes opening statement. >> thank you for the privilege of hearing today. let me upsize a few points that i made in my written statement. the first has been pointed out by the chairman and others. medicare advantage is a valuable and popular part of medicare. nearly 30% of beneficiaries voluntarily enrolled in it. it does provide extra services and innovative approaches to health care in the medicare program. it disproportionately serves lower income beneficiaries and minorities. it has been the program of choice for them. most importantly, medicare advantage is not fee-for-service medicine. it represents an important opportunity to move away from the practice of medicine that costly and that rewards volume over quality and american health ca

we closed last segment talking to dean baker about retired workers taking a hit.n fight after fight, in illinois, wisconsin, in other places when the issues has become workers pensions. they have been portrayed as greedy municipal workers. people who would drive the city, the county into bankruptcy rather than do their fair share to get them out. is this a problem? i mean after all these pro negotiated between collective bargaining agents the states and the counties and cities. >> the problems that have been earned are promises that need to be kept. the problem is the benefits, retirement that the workers have earned, it's the fact that the state has never put aside what they were opinioned to year after year and they've developed in huge unfunded liability. you see the kicking the can down the road coming to bear on today's workers and it's unfair. most states that have enacted reform have tried very hard to preserve the benefits to the existing workers while changing plans for workers going forward. in detroit's place they ran out of time and money. >> in the la

the men were pulled out of their home on baker street between full ham and mcalister street in san francisco. that's where chase cain is joining us live this morning. we understand you just talked to neighbors and friends. >> laura, i did, and they tell us that these two men are still in very bad case. they are in intense i care this morning after being rushed to the hospital last night in critical condition according to firefighters. at one point there were 115 san francisco firefighters out here. you can see the victorian home is very los to the homes next door, and even though you can't really tell from the front, there is significant damage to the back of this house. >> reporter: firefighters kept watch all night making sure flames didn't spark up again in this home on baker street after an intense fire erupted just before 9:00 last night trapping the homeowners inside. >> they're the sweetest. rapid where i and patrick were just -- patrick is like the most helpful, kind guy. he is just like -- is he the type of neighbor that would give you a cup of sugar when you need it, so i hope here
