with a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 6 miles centered nearly 40 miles south of bakersfield from ventura to temecula. and even san diego residents felt the tremors force there was shaking, all across southern california. lot of people knew about it. robert degroot with the u.s. geological survey gave us a tour of cal tech's seismological lab where they are now analyzing data from last night's earthquake. he says the shaking didn't stop after the initial jolt. at least 31 aftershocks followed the largest, reaching a magnitude of 4.5. 1 thing that was really significant about that earthquake is the shake alert. earthquake early warning system was activated. and so we know of potentially millions of people who received alert on their cell phone in response los angeles fire department swiftly initiated earthquake mode. dispatching teams to survey the city by land sea and air remarkably no significant damage or injuries were reported with shake alert. time is the most important information that we need. that's the thing that we need the most. we need to be able to get information
