the program is currently being hosted at balboa high school. today, we did our first orientation with about 50youth and the principal and responsible open it up for us to do another presentation tomorrow and one on monday. the schedule fluctuates, but the program is set up to serve 100, and they have an opportunity to receive up to at $590 that it, so it is a $50 gift card, depending on attendance, depending on summer school attendance, and we developed a rubric to determine how that they scale would work in terms of their seven. first orientation was today. that went over very well. we had about 50 something youth. they have all been given intake forms for the program. we will probably have a more finalist as of monday. part of our strategy as well is possibly working with bringing some of the youth over from philip burton. they have a credit recovery program being operated, as well as lowell high school. we working up some transportation issues because we want to try to get as close to 100 as possible. so there are already enrolled in summer

right now, you take the 14 bus 2 balboa station, and it will take you 40 minutes just to get to balboa station. that is one thing i am looking at, making muni more effective. san francisco, we talk about it being a transit first city, but it does not mean a lot of options for transit are not well thought out in places further from downtown. my district is one place where we need to create better options. >> you mentioned muni and the changes that are happening. what about parking, traffic, is the area safer for pedestrians? >> there is always a lot of work to do with pedestrians. making sure the department of parking and traffic is painting along alemany. along balboa park station, geneva, san jose, pushing hard to get a ramp for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street, especially if you are pushing a stroller or are in a wheelchair. you have to go further than you but typically have to. there is so much more to do. we have to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars, speeding through and make it unsafe for pedestrians. sidewalks are not very convenient for

i see zero, abraham lincoln, zero balboa, zero at galileo, zero at washington. i see two at lowell. i see zero at mission high school and zero at burton. so a lot of these class sizes are very, very small. i'm looking at also, let's see, i could look at another class here. naval science one, i see zero at lincoln, zero at balboa, zero at washington, zero at lowell, zero at mission and 84 at burton. so it's sort of the same numbers across the board here. so i'm sort of wondering, even with these class sizes, how many sections does a teacher teach or how many sections of jrotc are there in a school day , how many students are instructors actually teaching and, you know, we're not including students who participate after school. we are actually just including students who are currently enrolled with the master schedule and this is where we get our data from. so i think your numbers might show a higher number and a head count maybe and also, you know, we're also looking at a 10-day count but things change, too. so these numbers quite possibly could even be high. again, i don't see how t

we started at my school and it's moveed to balboa. to help a lot of kids who are victims themselves of the system. we have kids now who used to hate to come to school and now they are there everyday. they are getting what they need done and moving on. that's a good program. and secondly, the beacon program which, we have 8? >> yes >> we have 8 beacons around the city. they are really wonderful and lead the way to helping us with all of our kids. and i commend the mayor and margaret for help us out with those. >> mr. garcia? >> also, i need to add the wellness centers. >> around thing we need to build on is restored advocacy. we are pilots jane kimberly. she educated me.

i live on 27th avenue and balboa. i'm talking about some of the abuses we've had as a result of this concert. i was the victim of a home invasion last week. that's the way it felt. it was an invasion. it was not an invasion from these people. it was an invasion from another planet. from friday evening until sunday night, i was insulted by rally concertgoers, litter, and worst of all, the enlist noise of a thumping bass and other instruments. simply put, i was trapped and it was awful. one woman measured the sound level at her house at 23rd and california, which is almost a mile from the epicenter of the concert. 106 decimals in her house. this is twice the allowable sound level during and the noise in the city of san francisco. most importantly, there was not any community outreach. rec and park had a party in our neighborhood and everybody showed a callous disregard for our hospitality. i'm here to make what i hope is a productive request. i'm here to ask that the outside lands producers and rec and park sit down wit

ron erickson graduated from balboa high school in 1960. ed lim credit from galileo academy of science and technology in 1966. he was smart enough to marry a wonderful woman named and that who served for many years as a principal of our school district. one of the important jobs i had this year was launching a new scholarship program. thank you so much. the nations of california grant about $1.30 million in scholarships every year. we were caused to stop and think about what we are doing and to make a more profound district. we were able to carve off this year $157,000 for a new program called investment success. no longer was it just about gpa and financial need. it was about understanding students and their circumstances and who could use a hand up. the students we recognize tonight were referred by guidance counselors and principles. we interviewed each of them to understand them. they have shown character and a willingness to support our community that is exemplary. i am reminded of a "buy my angelou -- of a quote by maya angelou.
