i have talked a lot about balboa park station and we need great investments to go there. i see the station as full of amazing resources from cal trans to bart to muni. we have bike access, a lot of pedestrian access. a lot of it doesn't work well. it's constrained environment. the infrastructure is out dated and not much improved since the original design and structure of it as things were built. there were incremental changes recently and conflict at the site between the transit and transportation modes. i see one of the basic conflicts there. there is a sense that this site is maintenance yard, maintenance facility for muni as well as a place for tens of thousands of people go through on a daily basis either in their cars or on foot and bike, but mostly by transit riders and that's the basic conflict, but there are many other conflicts that go on there. pedestrian issues are difficult especially if you're a person with a disability. there is limited signage how to get around. it's limited. we don't have electricity to run next muni there. the list goes on and on and it'

thank you for giving me an opportunity to speak on balboa park capacity study. i really appreciate the many, many months and years of work that has been involved in looking at balboa park station. certainly we need to know how we can build a road map for improving the station and the people who use that station every day, passing through either on transit in their cars, on foot. definitely need improvements to be made there as quickly as possible. we had a hearing today in plans and programs, the transportation authority. we talked about the need for making improvements. we have timelines that are very tentative for moving the improvements forward. i'd like to think we can work more closely to make sure we can really put the meat on the bones as quickly as possible to make improvements to one of the most used transit hubs in the entire bay area region. that's what balboa park is, and it's something that desperately -- the peepople and the central part of san francisco need improvements on. i've worked with community groups how we can build transit oriented devel

today i took a tour of balboa park station which i use very frequently. balboa park station is a station that 10,000 people a day plus use to go to city college or get to downtown. it's our biggest transit hub outside of the downtown area of san francisco, in the whole bay area region. and it is completely inadequate. it looks like a hub that you would expect to find behind the eastern block -- an eastern block country back in the 1980s. it has not had any real substantial investment in years. i pushed a little bit to get some curb ramps which is the tip of the iceberg of what is actually needed. this is a video i'd like to show of what the conditions are and i hope, colleagues, you can actually take about 15 seconds to look at this. this is what people face every day and it's a very dangerous situation that we have. john, if you could.
