and i want to give you numbers, balboa is a school of 1300. now there is no funding for after-school programs. and this year we were not renewed for 21st century funds or dcyf funds. and we have 397 students enrolled in the after-school program but no funding. when we had funding we were the top-rated as far as attendance. and kendall is one of the students that benefited from the program. and we had 10 to 15 depending on the semester of the programs. >> i am kendall, and i am senior at balboa school. i have been going to the after-school program at balboa for four years. it's been a big benefit to the community. a lot of my friends would not be graduating if not for the after-school program. they have cyber high that provides tutoring, and they have programs to excel in math. and they have teachers that come in and help us, actual math teacher and not just computers. in addition we have a bunch of programs. we recently launched a 3-d printing program that is bringing 3-d technology into the hands of youth. and promoting engineering and educat

line and it has been envisioned as a new east/west line in the southern part of the city connecting balboa park station, the bay shore station dipping into san mateo. this is to develop some improvements and outreach to raise awareness in the community. this is a study that's been funded by multiple sources, including prop k as well as grant from the cal-trans with also contributions from our partners, some of them in san mateo county which is the congestion management agency for san mateo. cal train is also contributed some funds to the study. the scope is in your packet. the selection panel for the procurement including zach from the transportation authority as well as the sfmta and from cal transand ccag. the panel selected three of the teams for interviewing. after the interviews the panel selected the [inaudible] team as the top ranked proposer. based on that teams very strong urban design and complete streets expertise and services. it was the only team that dedicate edd urban designer. the team also demonstrated some strong out reach capabilities and /aeu poach. we think that's impo

i was the principal at balboa high school and a superintendent for several years in the central office. i've saw hundreds of programs come across my office in terms of programs that were design to serve youth. and i can attest cold hardly that the first tea is the best programs that we have in san francisco. and i think it's important to understand that this issue in terms of the golden gate park lease should not be a we verses them for youth verses older golfers. we can look at this in terms of how we can grow this program in san francisco and form a stronger community of golfers. i want to share with you a letter that would attest one of the segments of our programs that we don't have here this morning are the teachers in the program. i'm going to share with you a letter that i received from one of our teachers. the purpose of this letter is to share with you my personal experience in having my sunts participate in the first tea program. i've had my first grade class participate. when i first started with the first tea i thought the students would learn to play golf. i thought that w

. >> the renovation of balboa park, the oldest in the city of san francisco, and now it is the newest part in the city of san francisco. through our partnership, and because of public investment from the two thousand eight fund, we are celebrating a renewal and an awakening of this park. we have it safer, happier, more joyous. >> 3, 2, 1, [laughter] =--[applause] >> it is a great resource for families, to have fun in the city, recreation. >> this is an amazing park. we have not revitalized it without public and private investment. the critical piece of the process of this renovation was that it was all about the community. we reached out to everyone in this community. we love this park dearly and they all had thoughts and ideas and they wanted to bring their own creativity and their personality to bear on the design. what you see is what the community wanted. these ideas all came from the residents of this community. as a result, there is a sense of ownership, pride and responsibility that goes along with what is going to be an exciting park.
