i'm also here to support balboa families and our community at large. the way it was handled, quite frankly, was a hot mess, right? and there are no good guys in this situation. i don't want to pass off blame. i can just tell you that nothing about it set right. it criminalized communities. it criminalized students. it made us feel unease as a whole as a community, and we really need to address that, because for one pistol in a backpack, we got a school full of police in s.w.a.t.-style uniforms coming in over our kids. i have a problem with that. one trigger-happy cop could mean a whole bunch of kids die. so my thing is, we need to address how we respond to crises. how we allow people to interact with our students and our kids, so i say this to you guys again, please, please, please, remove the m.o.u. and make them adhere to that. it never should be a time and place where a parent should have to worry about their child being questioned by the police without them being present. we know that's illegal. it never should be a time when a child -- [ bell ring

i read a post on facebook from the mission police collaborative about the incident at balboa last week. i am concerned about it. i under, a friend of mine's son was the victim of what i feel was the victim of police -- bad policy. basically what i heard is that police -- there's classrooms pointing guns at student witnesses. i know that students were questioned about their parents and in this carrying i know that an isn't person who was not even a witness just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time was taken out at gunpoint. apparently his image has been in the media. i thought youth were protected from being revealed. so again, i know police are in a difficult situation and we want to keep everybody safe but i want that balboa incident to be looked into because i'm not happy as a parent. i'm here because that incident on muni the other day. i'm very troubled by it. i watched something very, very violent and i understand that the victim will not press charges. if he won't i'll press charges, just like there's a citizen arrest. i would stand up as a mother. if that was my s

there was an incident last week at balboa high school that i would like to report.s a shot that was fired inside the school. our officers responded and worked in conjunction with the school district personnel. we did make an arrest on that particular case. fortunately, no one was injured. it did cause a lockdown of the high school as well as the middle school. the response and coordination was good on that case and it was -- there was an arrest made on a juvenile. in that case, the high school -- there was a high school student. the investigation is still ongoing. luckily no one got hurt. in terms of our staffing, we had a lateral graduation class that the commission attended last week. we welcomed six lateral officers to the san francisco police department and to these officers have prior experience. a variety of police departments in the bay area. we are very happy to have them here. it is a first class in a number of years. because of their prior experience, we hope that they can hit the ground running. thank you commissioners for being there. just a little bit o
