square park to sunset playground, all a moe square, civic center, bernal heights to right here in balboa parkis project is going to touch parks and plazas across all of san francisco in every corner of our city. san francisco has been a leader in our technology community and our technology economy across our country and now we get to continue to play a role in being a leader bringing technology solutions to improve the lives of our residents here in our city. it's been a privilege to work on this project and to lead this effort the last two years and look forward to bringing the broader vision of free wi-fi across san francisco in the next few years with all the partners behind me today. this has been a strong collaboration on behalf of a lot of partners. in particular, google, sf city, our recreation and park department as well as our department of technology, and i want to thank all of those involved. this project started a little over two years ago with a conversation i had with an old family friend from google. and i want to take a moment to thank the entire google team that worked on thi

thank you >> the renovation of balboa park, the oldest in the city of san francisco, and now it is the newest part in the city of san francisco. through our partnership, and because of public investment from the two thousand eight fund, we are celebrating a renewal and an awakening of this park. we have it safer, happier, more joyous. >> 3, 2, 1, [laughter] =--[applause] >> it is a great resource for families, to have fun in the city, recreation. >> this is an amazing park. we have not revitalized it without public and private investment. the critical piece of the process of this renovation was that it was all about the community. we reached out to everyone in this community. we love this park dearly and they all had thoughts and ideas and they wanted to bring their own creativity and their personality to bear on the design. what you see is what the community wanted. these ideas all came from the residents of this community. as a result, there is a sense of ownership, pride and responsibility that goes along with what is going to be an exciting park.

adds in multiple languages across those several format and c acs of other projects including the balboa park c ac. as i mentioned there are 7 san francisco seats. we received 11 applications and there are month applicants for the exclusive park and other missions and at large seats. we do not receive applicants for the bay view point neighborhood and we'll be continuing recruitment. we expect recruitment to close at the end of this month and for anyone wanting to apply the applications are on line. of the applicants you can appoint up to 5 members to the seats based on the structure that's allocated in the residency of the different members. with that oh, as for the other 4 seats this year in the san mateo county and two in the city and they'll be appoint those seats themselves. from what i understand they've already appointed two members and daily city will forward the applicants to us on november 12th >> is that the transportation authority in san mateo county that does that. >> yes. >> and there are several members who would like to be heard. >> colleagues any questions? then let's open t

and it is appropriate that we're here at balboa park. mark, john, and the mayor all talked about the improvements that have happened in this really, really important piece of open space. it's a dense neighborhoodv. it's in a transit corridor. and thanks to partnership and thanks to community support and thanks to the leadership of our elected officials we've made some incredible improvements here in the last few years. behind us, our new playground thanks to the support of the trust for public land. behind all of you is an incredible new skateboard park which is both a public -- another public-private partnership partially funded with bond funds. behind us even further is balboa pool which thanks to the 2012 parks bond will be renovated with a state-of-the-art swimming pool in a few years. the theme here is meeting evolving community needs. skateboarding has become more popular. the needs of our aquatics programs is changing. the needs of our playground is evolving and so, too, is technology. technology has a very important place in park

there is a citizens advisory committee in balboa park area working in projects in that area. i can get you hooked up with them. there is a lot. one of the things i didn't mention is that there is an entrance from ocean avenue because there are also a lot of people coming from city college and from the high school there. we have a new accessible interns into bart station that comes from ocean and we are going to be building a platform across the bart station to the munis accessible stop. it's going to be a better access at ocean avenue and at geneva on the opposite sides so when they are moving on the train they won't have a lay over. we are having on both sides of the station. that is going to be improvement on the balboa side. >> even the curb that they are going to make a different color than mormal so they will stand out. so if a person is walking they will really see it. it's usually the color of the regular sidewalk. >> right. i appreciate that. i will definitely pass that along. >> thank you. anymore councilmembers? staff. public comment? >> i'm bob. i was part of the p

. >> along balboa park station, near geneva, i have been pushing hard to get ramps for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street. i want to insure the department of parking and traffic is painting lines on alemany street. beyond that, we need to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars go speeding through. sidewalks are not convenient for people. >> i am the supervisor for district 11, the debt -- the best district in san francisco. this year, we get to show how great district 11 really is. >> we are in our fifth year of major budget deficits. it is inevitable that we will make painful cuts. so how do we do it in a way that will minimize the impact on every day san franciscans? >> i really appreciate what you're doing here. you are a really patient gentleman, and i appreciate that. >> our parks are often cut first. how do we maintain our safety net, public health services, security services? all of these are critical decisions that have to be made. >> i have seen many people come forward today who i know whose lives have changed because of the services we a

along balboa park station, geneva, san jose, pushing hard to get a ramp for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street, especially if you are pushing a stroller or are in a wheelchair. you have to go further than you but typically have to. there is so much more to do. we have to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars, speeding through and make it unsafe for pedestrians. sidewalks are not very convenient for people. it takes a lot of money to do that, but it is really about being vigilant and looking at the fund the come through the transportation authority. we have been extending sidewalks in some places to help with pedestrians, trying to put in islands, plantings to slow down traffic. bike lanes have helped. a bit controversial where i live is a bike lane. people do not see as many bikes, but we are seeing more and more common now that the bike lanes are coming in. that makes it safer for pedestrians. we have a bike way on a major street. you do not have as much time to cross, and you cut down one lane for the cars and a pedestrian can then w

and begin the construction in march of 2015, balboa park has undergone the significant renovation already with the trust for public land and we have done the fields there and the playground has been redone and these are focused primarily on the pool building. and we expect to begin the planning phase for that project late this year. the playground and relatively a small site. and we expect to begin the planning early next year and hopefully be in the complete design in october and start construction in 17 and be open to the public in 2017 in spring of 2018 and i should mention to you that what we tried to do is keep our capitol staff is funded by our bond program and so, you will see this bleed of 2008 projects overlapping with 2012 projects and if we are lucky enough to have a bond approved moving into it is weather, 2018, type of projects, so that we keep our staffing levels consistent, so that in addition to the way that the bonds are issued by the office of public finance and the board of supervisors, it contributes to our phasing of the projects and the sunset project is currently in
