along balboa park station, geneva, san jose, pushing hard to get a ramp for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street, especially if you are pushing a stroller or are in a wheelchair. you have to go further than you but typically have to. there is so much more to do. we have to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars, speeding through and make it unsafe for pedestrians. sidewalks are not very convenient for people. it takes a lot of money to do that, but it is really about being vigilant and looking at the fund the come through the transportation authority. we have been extending sidewalks in some places to help with pedestrians, trying to put in islands, plantings to slow down traffic. bike lanes have helped. a bit controversial where i live is a bike lane. people do not see as many bikes, but we are seeing more and more common now that the bike lanes are coming in. that makes it safer for pedestrians. we have a bike way on a major street. you do not have as much time to cross, and you cut down one lane for the cars and a pedestrian can then w

mayor lee came out to balboa park station twice with me. i brought him out on a monday to see what the station is like for every day transit users. they come into the station and see a station that is in rapid deterioration, and safe, difficult to navigate as a pedestrian, unclean, news racks that were in terrible shape. i brought him here on an monday -- on monday. then we brought him back on thursday after the department's worked to make things more presentable. that commitment to come out and share in the experience of everyday san franciscans was really important to see. it is also about his work in city hall and in the city, that expands several districts and their hooves across the city. he is someone that rolls up his sleeves and gets things done. i want to thank you for being here tonight. [applause] i want to hand over the microphone to you -- actually, to greg widener first. the mayor's budget director has to leave early. he will be replaced by another member of the mayor's budget office, rick, who will be here to listen. greg, if

first of all, let's get back balboa park station fix that. as we do it, let's not forget about pedestrian improvements. we have to make sure that with gas at $4 or $5 a gallon, we will all be walking, so let's make it as attractive and pedestrian-friendly as possible. second, we have a signature building in this neighborhood. it has been an abandoned eyesore for too long. there is a fabulous program by the friends of the geneva car barn to put together a youth programs there. why can we have a signature building in this neighborhood with signature programs for all the youth we have? we have the kids out here. let's get the building taken care of. i would sure like to see that done. [applause] moving on, i would like to see more neighborhood enhancement, more public/private partnerships. the pavement to parks programs are outstanding, and i would like to see some more of that, particularly on ridge lane. supervisor avalos walked that with me. does not take a lot of money, and great improvement can be done with a little bit of money. curb enfor

so things like the improvements of the balboa park station, major dollar items, very important projects, but can be handled programmatically because they don't expend capacity. projects not considered for the r.t.p., longer range projects. kind of next phase of transit expansion priorities. and then policy changes that are necessarily in there. and then projects not under consideration either because they conflict with city policy or aren't really transportation projects. so just to set the context, as i said before, this isn't only a very small piece of the overall process that m.t.c. is going through, they're also soliciting rehab and maintenance needs from transit, local streets and roads and highways, as well as considering project priorities submitted directly by regional transit operators. so while we've been doing the call for projects, as we move forward, we have been -- we will continue to do regional coordination efforts advocating for our project priorities, identifying corridor strategies so how do we coordinate with san mateo, alameda county and operators in those corridors
