comes out of many years, a decade of work coming together a round of the balboa park station area plan. it was looking to manage the land use decisions around balboa park that was the most concentrated and congested station in the bart system outside downtown san francisco. it has bart bus, light rail, mta, there is a confluence of pedestrians and buses and cars and freeways that lead to a big snarl. having this the advisory committee that can look at how we can manage transportation issues that can work with the mta as well as other transportation agencies like bart, we can manage development that has to happen around the area. the station itself is almost an industrial area surrounded by communities that use the station. we need to figure out how we can have a strong community presence that can assure the city departments, make sure that the city departments are moving forward to make the place safer for pedestrians. better markings for people to make their way around the area, abide by the station area plans. all these are considerations to move forward, making sure that our departm

right now, you take the 14 bus 2 balboa station, and it will take you 40 minutes just to get to balboatation. that is one thing i am looking at, making muni more effective. san francisco, we talk about it being a transit first city, but it does not mean a lot of options for transit are not well thought out in places further from downtown. my district is one place where we need to create better options. >> you mentioned muni and the changes that are happening. what about parking, traffic, is the area safer for pedestrians? >> there is always a lot of work to do with pedestrians. making sure the department of parking and traffic is painting along alemany. along balboa park station, geneva, san jose, pushing hard to get a ramp for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street, especially if you are pushing a stroller or are in a wheelchair. you have to go further than you but typically have to. there is so much more to do. we have to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars, speeding through and make it unsafe for pedestrians. sidewalks are not very convenient for p

supervisor avalos: i ask for your support of this resolution to establish the balboa park station advisory committee. one of the first things i had done in coming to office was to go to the work of the previous supervisor in the community that was around balboa park station, that created the station area plan. that included funds from various districts, including district 11. since that time, the mta has also conducted a capacity study of balboa park station area. there are land use decisions. there are decisions around transit that are sitting in desks on paper. that are not giving in acted as quickly as possible. this is -- that are not getting enacted as quickly as possible. this is not adequate for the needs of people in the southern part of san francisco. we have wanted to make sure we can have improvements done in a timely way, knowing the timelines are stretched out to a great length. with this advisory committee, it is about making sure we can have a partnership with the mta, with bart, with other entities around the area, to ensure they are accomplishing the much-needed goals of i

programs, from the federal state planning research project all of the way down to the federal balboa park station. those are all new rounds with funding that we received four grants after it was completed last may. next, we have the stateab1 ab11. we are in phase one of the project and we anticipate completion by june 30 with an additional $36 million in revenues and expenditures to be completed this fiscal year. next, we have more grants, more grants that have either been spent in the last fiscal year, or more grants them -- that we will be spending in this fiscal year. coming from a line item down to the regional development authority spending. we also have $146,000 that we are adding to to the designation that has been accepted to run the transportation island transportation program. that item was approved back in october 2011. as we are going down the schedule, we have other avenues. a large revenue projects that consists of $707,000 a dpw because -- for dpw and the federal highway administration emergency release grant for a great highway project. we also have some refunds from projects like
