daniel baldwin joins me now. welcome back to the show. this is all very depressing, i would imagine for you and your family. how has it come to this? >> well, you know, we're trying to recover ourselves emotionally and psychologically from some of the events that took place in the house that led to these papers being filed. but it wasn't, you know, a one off event. i mean you're right in assuming that there has been a steady build up in this. joann got a dui a year ago june and placed on probation and has had some problems with violations of probation previous to this. but let me just tell you something. we have skated on the charlie sheen issue and some other people before on your show. remember something. the sheens love charlie. and the lohans love lindsey. and the baldwin's loved daniel when he went through his problems as we love joann. so the filing of these papers were strictly and solely because i needed to protect my children. so, you know, that's why this occurred. >> i mean the papers make dramatic, really. i have them in front

kate baldwin looks ahead. >> reporter: if it does pass in the house, it has the potential of hitting a huge road block as soon as it gets to the senate. at the same time, that house speaker john boehner's office was putting out this release, the good news about the cost estimate, senate democrats released a letter at almost the same time with 53 signatures on it saying they don't support the plan in the senate and really essentially making clear that it cannot pass. so while all eyes are still on the house to see what happens with john boehner's plan in the house, it has serious problems in the senate if it gets there. >> you figure the democrats wouldn't be friends, that's just politics but this bill is make something republicans cannibalize each other. we're seeing the difference between republicans who play the game and the new tea party favorites who say the game helped us get into this mess. listen to these two republicans, old school and new school. that. >> is not fair. that is not fair to the american people, to hold out and say we won't agree to raising the debt limit until

congressional correspondent, kate baldwin on capitol hill.ch other or like each other much, now they have a different take on the same meeting. >> reporter: i've been in touch with democratic officials familiar with the debt talks. what i've hearing is at the end of the meeting, eric cantor, one of the lead negotiators for the republicans proposed a series of votes, short term votes for the debt extension, something the president has repeatedly said he won't accept. the president basically gave the group a lecture. he said, i will not accept this. i will veto this and then said this kind of offer reaffirms what americans already think of washington. that everybody is posturing for political gain and doesn't really want to solve our problems. he called on the group to solve -- stop catering to their bases and find solutions. that came at the end of the meeting. after he made that statement, that is when the meeting ended and that is when the president and others left. that is how we should distinguish this from walking out of a meeting. >> so

you, i'm brook baldwin. we are talking debt again today, keep in mind the clock is ticking down, another day closer to default. now six days and counting. here's the deal, at this hour, the house of representatives has nothing to vote on, no rescue package because john boehner oversold that plan he promised back on monday night. now as the rest of washington waits here, speaker boehner has spent the day trying to find more cuts to a program that he re -- the same congressional bean counters who check boehner's plan has now checked harry reed's. today those same bean counters are saying, yep, reed's numbers are wrong as well. but they also say that when it's all said and done, reed's deficit cutting trumps boehner's by, listen to this, more a trillion dollars. reed's plan, ten years, $2.2 trillion in net debt reduction. meantime boehner's plan $850 billion. again, six days until default. so what about the white house here? no debt meetings, not today, at least not publicly on the president's schedule. so let'
