i'm brooke baldwin. let's get right to it. a second coronavirus could begin arriving in hospitals around the country as early as this weekend, and we all know that's not a moment too soon. the number of americans sick with this terrible virus just keeps going up and up. more than 233,000 infections reported yesterday alone, adding to a total this week that is shocking. more than a million and a half new covid cases reported over the last seven days. that is one in every 216 americans. here's another number for you. it was more than 3,000 deaths reported yesterday. the third time this week we have suffered a daily loss of life surpassing the terror attacks on 9/11. think about that. hospitals in almost every part of the country are being crushed by this virus. more than 114,000 people are sick with covid in hospital beds as i speak, and specifically in southern california, the situation there is dire. there are zero icu beds available there right now. zero. the institute of health metrics and evaluation at the university of was

i'm brooke baldwin. you're watching cnn. it is day two of the coronavirus vaccine in the u.s. introducing the inoculations to front line health workers today. it is the first and most critical step in finally getting this pandemic under control. and it could not come at a more crucial time. right now there are more americans hospitalized with coronavirus than at any time before. more than 10,500. this as the number of deaths hit another horrible milestone. look at this. 301,000 americans killed by this disease and counting. there is some hope for all of us on the horizon. the fda announcing it is authorizing a new at-home coronavirus test that could help track the disease, so let's start there. cnn's sara murray has more on this giant undertaking to get vaccines to the people who need them most. star a, h sa sara, how is distribution going? >> reporter: on the largest coronavirus vaccine distribution so far, health care workers are eagerly lining up at 425 new sites nationwide. >> feeling really hopeful

and so, baldwin, in this moment, is kind of marking this, right? that america is always talking about it changing, but it never changes, right? and so, what's so interesting about the conversation around the democratic party is that it's actually insane -- right? -- that we would think that the way to respond to the scale of problems that we confront as a nation is to harken back to an older form of politics that is dlc, "third way" democratic-oriented -- you know, democratic politics, that seems to y to triangulate and appeal to this reagan democrat that they are so obsessed with as a way of responding to this problem. it makes no sense that we would go back to the politics at actually produced trumpism in the first place. that's the first point. the second -- or the second point. the third point is this, we can't allow these folk to disentangle trumpism from the republican party. i think this is what bree newsome bass is trying to suggest to us. we can't allow them to disentangle these two things. th are one and the same. so what are you asking f
