the departments from baltimore city, baltimore county and other areas responded to service. strong winds hindered their efforts. one of the more serious scenes was in the 100 block of war pick shire lane. that one sent a 2-year-old to the hospital with what officials describe as life- threatening injuries. we are told a burning pot of food on a stove caused that fire. there was this fire in southwest baltimore city. the cause is still underinvestigation. no injuries were reported. the chief gave us this reminder today. >> oftentimes people will use alternatives means of heat can't houses when they are economically challenged such as turning on the stove, the often and the burners and that can pose a health as well as safety hazard. >> if you use a space heater, he advises giving it three feet of space. he reminded residents that kerosene heaters are illegal in the city. >> a baltimore man was found dead on 895 and police need help in figuring out what happened. the victim has been identified as a 23-year-old from highland avenue. the body was found on the right shoulder of t

a baltimore father is charged with the death of his own daughter tonight. 24-year-old jerome wallace and his girlfriend are charged with beating his 20-month-old daughter to death. jim joins us live at baltimore city police headquarters with more. >> this is the first and only child homicide in baltimore in 2009, and we had almost made it a whole year without one child homicide when this father is accused of beating his toddler daughter to death. it was december 19, the afternoon of the blizzard of 2009 when rescue workers were called to a home in the 2800 block of kentucky avenue in northeast baltimore for a child not breathing. by the time they got there, it was too late. she was to a month shy of her second birthday. >> the child sustained serious trauma to her body. >> there were several injuries to the toddler's face and neck. authorities started an immediate investigation and arrest to the people they believe are responsible. her own father, and his girlfriend each face multiple charges, including child abuse, assault, and murder. >> if they did, then throw the book at them. if
