baltimore city police called them. this is the most significant thing so far to date with terms of property destruction. we have been seeing looting throughout the afternoon. it is also interesting to note they're saying eight police officers were injured. for a long time they were saying seven. that eighth number may be the e lieutenant who was injured here on north avenue next to the bus station. there were two police vehicles that belonged to the mta which is the equivalent of the metro system here in d.c. the bus and metro system in baltimore. they have 150 officers on the ground as well. and one of their officers was injured when two of their vehicles were set on fire. the baltimore city police wendy, also saying that protesters or demonstrators or whoever these people are in the streets throwing projectiles like bricks and stones at police cars with officers inside. they had not reported that before. we were also asked to give you an update on the orioles game because it does impact quite a few people and seemed t

how does she take what the baltimore city police investigated about baltimore city police take it ingest it and figure out whether she needs to slap charges on these guys? >> prosecutors do it often. they certainly get investigations from police officers about police officers. we have those type of units. all of our prosecutor's offices in the country. you look at it and evaluate it and come to a decision. prosecutors do it very often. i think the difference is going to be certainly that it is sort of under the nation's guise that she has to make this very difficult decision. but it's not an unusual thing to do. i will say this. i am not in favor of police investigating their own. i think what is a more appropriate way of handling these kinds of investigations that we have been seeing all around our country is to have an independent investigative team coming in. to be sure we know there are several investigative teams working on this case. we have two federal investigations i think, also ongoing. evan can speak more to that. but there is always that question. how can she be objective whe

city hall in baltimore. >> 50 protesters showed off up for the first time today. first time we have see seen protesters outside of city hall. behind them is 30 police officers in riot gear that came in a moment ago. we are getting later in the evening with the sun going down. two hours ago from the curfew. greta, it was clear here in baltimore, that the city and the state had two strategies yesterday. i talked to the mayor today. i talked to the governor pursuing that very issue. the governor says he was ready to go yesterday afternoon did not want to intervene with the mayor's division. did he not feel that would be appropriate. the mayor told me she would not go in with a heavy hand. she thought it would send the wrong message but when it was time she wanted to go in a serious way in which it was organized and fit. but i asked her poignantly whether or not the officers were told to hold back the mayor's answer just a moment ago on that question. >> you have to understand it's not holding back. it's responding appropriately. if you don't have all of your equipment in play because things are changing in realtime, you can't respond you can't contrac

baltimore police department. we just heard from baltimore city police commissioner anthony batts. strong statement i thought from commissioner batts suggesting that they don't want to disclose too much ap this point because they might be prosecuting some of the police officers also the deposit any commissioner with the first admissions that the police did something wrong. he said quote very frankly he should have gotten medical attention at the site of the arrest and he wasn't strond in as he should have been. >> i think those are significant. that is clear acknowledgment that freddie gray was not treated properly. he should have gotten medical treatment and should have been strapped into the transport wagon. now the big question that is still outstanding is was this negligence was this ined a very tans a mistake on the part of the officers were some kind of aggressive mistreatment? was it more like a crime, an assault? that question is not answered but certainly an advance in the investigation to say that freddie gray was treated in a wrong way. >> very different tone very differ

distrust between police and citizens. >> we caught up with former baltimore police officer joseph crystal, the son of two new york city police officers and grew up wanting to be a cop. he joined the baltimore pd in 2008. things took a turn for the worse three years later after he accused a fellow officer of beating a drug suspect. >> i had to deal with incidents when not working when they were getting backed up on the street someone placing a dead rat on my car. >> crystal filed a lawsuit claiming officers tried to cover up the assault of the suspect and top brass failed to protect him for breaking the so-called blue wall of silence. police would not comment on the case citing pending litigation. >> right now we live in a day and age where people don't trust the police. it's unfortunate and it's horrible. i think it's important that from top to bottom we instill integrity back into the police department. >> reporter: like many cities across the country, the relationship between baltimore and the community it serves has been severely strained. >> right now there's a lot of mistrust with some of the communities and the
