hi, jackie. >> good morning, barbara.ade in session under way they're focusing on this, in light of president obama's speech last night. the unemployment rate fell to 8.1% from 8.3% in july, but let me put these numbers in context. wall street was expecting 130,000 jobs to be added, so the pal rolls in um beer is being viewed as weak, and the question is why the unemployment rate ticked down. the main reason, a sharp drop in the size of the labor force. wall street's also looking past the headline number feeling that the earnings data was even worse, average hourly earnings were flat for the month while for the year the rate fell to 1.7%. that's unchanged from the prior month but extraordinarily low levels. stocks have been trading flat for much of the session after a big rally. right now the dow is lower by ten points. expectations that today's data is prompted by easing from the fed. that's helping to limit some of these losses. back over to you. >> all right. thanks, jack key. >>> tonight rival tv networks will come to

barbara korsch: we used to worry about malnutrition.ur biggest, biggest problem, big in every sense of the word, is obesity at all ages. i see parents using food as rewards all the time, and generally it's food of low nutrient density. it's like candies, cookies, lollipops, the usual sorts of things. tyler was sort of nice... and she's saying please... and basically when you use a food as reward, you're holding up that food as something special. when you think about it, it doesn't quite make sense. it's like, "you're a good boy, here's a lollipop that will cause you to have tooth decay, and has almost nothing in it for your health and well-being." how much sense does that make? that's a big problem that we have, in particular, in overweight children, where grandma's way of rewarding you is a trip to the local fast food chain. i won't impugn any one chain, they're all there-- you know, and fries and a burger are the way to your heart. we have to change that myth. fries and a burger should not be the way to your heart. it's the way to ath

i am barbara stewart. >> can you please pull the microphone closer? thank you. >> i am here to talk about the dangers of flooding. as you know the coastal areas and the low lying areas around the bay are very vulnerable to flooding and -- there is rising tide and higher storm surges that threaten the city. but the current planning document relies on data that are obsolete in terms of predictive strengths. newer research has been done in the last five years and it's based on larger and more precise data sets so it's possible to predict with considerable confidence the amount of flooding that might occur even in smaller geographic areas. one of the studies was discussed in the "san francisco chronicle" by david pearlman. it was called quality global's level rise could hit california hard". the second study was described in the "new york times" in its environment section on the front page that described data that indicated san francisco bay along the embarcadero may rise 3 feet in the next eight years. the findings of the two studies merit careful consid

barbara?first thing we have to think about is the texas redistricting case, the court has to do something with that case. it either has to, you know, it either has to accept it and review it or affirm or reverse. that is the first case that is really before them. then, you have the county case, which is the -- too, as they say, which is, once again the question of the constitutionality of section five. this question comes in two ways. what are they going to do? >> i think it's very important for people to know this is not past history we are talking about. in 2006, the record that we, that civil rights organizations, the lawyer's committee for civil rights and others put before the congress showed that between 1980 and today that there hanover 4023 objections by the department of justice because of purposeful discrimination. it's not accidental. purposeful discrimination. we are living in an age where even though the voting rights act has been transformative to our nation, people are still doi

barbara starr joins us now live. barbara, what do we know about these two men? >> well now, christine, we can confirm that the two men were former u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s both highly decorated military veterans. they've now been identified by secretary of state hillary clinton as 41-year-old tyrone woods and 42-year-old glen doherty. both of their mothers have spoken. >> ty would not want to be seen as a hero. he would want to be seen as a guy on his team who did his job. >> and did it well. >> and did it well, did it the best he could. obviously, obviously, and unfortunately, and i'm sure -- i'm sure my son went down fighting. i don't know the ins and outs of it i haven't been told, but i'm sure he went down fight 'i'm sure he did. >> glen was an amazing human being, and we're devastated. he was a great friend and brother and really good at his job, and it's a huge loss for everyone. >> tyrone woods leaves behind a wife and three children three boys including a son who was born just a few months ago. and doherty was in libya, actually, as part of a mission to searc
