tonight is the story of barbara ush. for the next 90 minutes, to tell us more about her life and influence are two guests. the barbara bush biographer, part of the series we have turned to so often. she is a first ladies scholar. jeffrey engel is the founding director of the center for presidential history at southern methodist university. he is the author of one book on george bush's oreign-policy. we heard barbara bush talk about the fact that when she became first lady, her words were much more attention getting. that trend continues. we will see clips of an interview that she gave to us in october. one of them has been bouncing all around the news networks for several days because she talked about presidential dynasties, political dynasties, and the potential for jeb bush's presidential aspirations. barbara bush -- she had a reputation for a good quote and candid comments. >> she was always very aware of her public persona and i think she was always concerned about whether it would have political consequences for her

you can see barbara bush with a big smile on her face there.n tracking the story for us. you know, what do we know about her past struggles with her health? >> this is at least the fourth time the former first lady has spent time in the hospital in recent years. she's been dealing with graves disease, which affects the thyroid, since the late '80s. in 2009, she had heart surgery after doctors found hardening in one part of her aorta. in 2008, she was hospitalized for abdominal pain and underwent surgery for an ulcer. details are few, but we know she's being treated for a respiratory illness and she's been in the hospital since monday. a family spokesperson would not release additional details on her condition. >> i'm just curious, what are bush family confidantes saying about the former first lady's hospital stay? should we be worried? >> number 42, former president bill clinton is close to the bush family. he sent good vibes through social media. he tweeted, i'll be rooting for barbara bush's full recovery while she's rooting for baylor today.
