reporter: 40 mile per hour winds have driven the holiday fire in the town of ga lee da north of -- galida north of santa barbara. firefighters are trying to save as many homes as they can, but in some cases it's been a losing battle. the fire raced up the hillside as southern california experienced a record-setting heat wave. 100 degree temperatures and winds made the blaze almost impossible to control friday night. although evacuations have been ordered patty driscoll decided to stay behind with a garden hose in hand she kept the flames from reaching her home of 30 years. >> yeah, so i was just standing right here. as far as this hose would take me. and that was it. >> reporter: governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency here at the holiday fire and also further south where the west fire's burning east of san diego in alpine california. you can see homes engulfed in flames and homeowners returned to this, ashes and charred ruined. >> they're devastated. there's nothing left in some homes. >> reporter: and an incredibly close call for these firefighters in alpine. they scrambled to get up the hill w

. >> santa barbara, hawaii, those are a couple places that the gas prices are high.nd right here in the bay area. >>> we've got good weather. if you're driving around town you should be in pretty good shape. the clouds at the coastline at this hour and will continue to be there. the rest of us mostly sunny and temperatures are warming up. here's a look at the temperatures. 62degrees on the west edge of san francisco. and cooler than half moon bay who sits at 6:00. along the east bayshore, 66 in oakland, in areas over san jose and to the north bay, a beautiful 72 outside your door in napa. notice the shades of red there mentioned in the last half hour. the lake county area going above 100 degrees for today. and the lake county area is one of several communities that will have a heat advisory for the next couple of days. be careful. it's going to be really, really warm for some. temperatures are a little bit cooler. down by san carlos, and inland and we're up by just a tad. 2degrees warmer in livermore than at this hour yesterday. there's the view over the cloud cover.

barbara last night. firefighters have it 85% contained. governor brown declared a state of emergency in the area. >> this area here evidently there were gas lines exploding last night. and flames were jumping up. outrageously hot, they couldn't even walk on the street! the house across the street from us burnt to the ground. but they were able to keep our house from burning. >> close call for a lot of people. in the past hour, firefighters have downgraded some mandatory evacuations to evacuation warnings. >>> in los angeles a small brush fire quickly spread to people's back yours and came dangerously close to their homes. a fire broke out in granada hills this afternoon. firefighters battled the fire from the air and the ground and some can be seen hosing down the flames. no word on how it started. >>> a deadly fire burning near the oregon border more than doubled in size overnight. the klamathon fire is approaching 22,000 acres, just 5% contained. it started thursday in the siskiyou county town of hornbrook. one person was found dead there yesterday. at least 15 structures are confirmed destroyed. that's down from an earlier estimate of

barbara starr. what is president trump getting at when he calls germany a captive of russia? any truth in it? >> reporter: well, his contention is that this oil and gas deal germany has with russians for energy supplies is making them beholden to the russian government at a time when the u.s. has tens of thousands of troops in europe and germany as well and the u.s. is paying a considerable amount for european defense issues. but the germans will tell you this is a deal that's been in the works for some time, that it is a business deal, that it has nothing to do with security issues. so you have this dilemma, this contradiction, you have a very verbally upset president of the united states at nato. he wants countries right now to fulfill this decades long promise they made that by 2024 they will spend 2% of the economy on defense spending. many nato members are not up to that level yet. the u.s. is above it. he wants to see it done immediately. whether he can do that through his own sheer force of will i think remains to be seen. ana? >> barbara, president trump made it clear military spending is one of the top issues in the summit, but there are dis
