my name is barbara kenny and i'm a photographer. i'm much more comfortable behind the camera rather than in front, so bear with me. when i first became involved in this probably, maria talked about creating photographs that would document the status of women in our country today. and possibly become as iconic as images from the great depression. i put together a team of the best women photo journalists that i knew and we set out across the country to shoot a day in the life of our subjects. to show them working, taking care of children and family, going to school, doing whatever they had to do to make it through the day. we photographed women on the east coast and the west, in south carolina, florida, tennessee and montana and on a navajo reservation in arizona. these photos are a documentation of where many women are in our country now. they provide a glimpse into the lives of women who are all around us, but whom we may rarely notice. from early in the morning until late at night, these women were going strong. in chattanooga, one
