o'malley was going to do this. first off he passed on running for the seat being vacated by barbara ma cull ski.ome of the early voting states as well. a little bit about his history. of course he served two terms as governor of maryland first in 2006 and then in 2010. both times winning by more than 50%. and also two terms as mayor of baltimore 1999 and 2004. he was seen as a long shot and won overwhelmingly in both of those races. and throughout his political career he has carried the moniker with him. as mayor of baltimore, crime went down by about 43%. but on the other side of that critics say he may have messed with the figures. a heavily data approach to crime fighting. some folks say we are seeing the ramifications of that. now as governor he banned the death penalty in maryland and the state schools were rated among the best many the country for several years in a row. that was relatively unheard of until his tenure. we'll hear more about the details of his candidacy and all of that stuff coming up in about an hour and a half. we are live at federal hill in baltimore, derrick ward news4.
