grammy weekend kicked off in los angeles last night with a tribute to a true grammy legend, barbra streisandd as the music erica's person of the year in a ceremony that brought out a crowd of famous faces. before the big event streisand sat down with "entertainment tonight" anchor nancy o'dell for a rare interview. >> reporter: last night in los angeles, barbra streisand accepted the music cares award for her artistry and philanthropy. she took the stage for a rare wide performance that brought some of music's biggest names to their feet. ♪ we had the chance and we would ♪ >> everybody gets so excited when you're going to perform. it becomes an event. we love to see you perform. >> but performing is very tough. i love recording. because it's just me and the music. me and the orchestra. me and the musicians. >> an incredibly versatile entertainer she's won four emmys, two oscars a tony and eight grammys in a career that includes a whopping 63 albums. take me back to 1963 when you won your first two grammys. >> i have no memory of it. >> you're kidding? >> i remember the dress. that i wore. a

i mean, think about, like-- i would have loved to see the barbra streisand concert, but it was a little beyond my means. and public funding meant that a lot of people who weren't privileged had access. it kept ticket prices down and sometimes free. so it made art accessible to a lot of people who are cut out of the marketplace. you mentioned your supreme court experience as being "theater." and that theater inspired new theater. you have a new show called preaching to the perverted. is that truth in advertising?
