and, fire destroys a barn in maxwell. the big challenge for firefighters and what they were able to save. the news at noon... starts now. good afternoon. i'm megan reuther. thank you for joining us. fire crews in maxwell spent the morning fighting flames that destroyed a large barn. crews were called to the 31-hundred block of 653rd avenue around five 3:26:26 - 3:26:36 once we got here, the barn was fully engulfed, so the decision was made to go defensive, protect the house, cars, and surrounding structures about two dozen fire fighters from three separate departments had to be called in to help carry water. they were able to stop the spread before it reached the home. they were also able to rescue horses inside the barn. the vehicles and equipment though were destroyed. crews from cambridge, collins, and nevada assisted. no one was hurt. crews say the hay will continue to burn throughout the day. we now know what may have sparked large scale field fires in eastern iowa.... it took 13 fire departments 5 hours to put out t
