kerry barrett is in the newsroom with the latest. >> it was a very big quake, darlene. the u.s. gee logical survey says it was the largest earthquake to hit in that location in 100 years. this morning, the chilean president confirming three are dead. the quake was felt as far away as santiago, about 160 miles to the south of the epicenter. the airport was evacuated but has since reopened. it shook a lot of buildings in the area. tsunami warnings are being issued for that area and for several hundred miles of central and southern california. even as far away as hawaii. they don't expect a major tsunami, but they are saying conditions could be very dangerous for boaters and for swimmers. meanwhile, chile's national emergency office is asking the residents of the coastal towns there to evacuate. there's a lot of infrastructure damage. communication has been poor. there are a lot of areas that have no power. we spoke with one man who lived through earthquakes in that region before. >> when that happens, the ocean comes in. so pretty much we have to run up to the hills, you know, to
