i have see two headlines, got "barron's," saying no recession this year, you can bank on it.over of business week, talking about commercial banks and word scary. where are we? are we going into recession this year? where are we going in this economy? >> i mentioned the yield curve, charles, the front end is above the long end. that is very anomalous. the only time it ever normalizes short rates before long rates. why should you earn more money on a safe asset than a risky asset, take inflation risk. the only way the curve normalizes if the fed cuts rates, cuts rates a lot. i don't see that happening outside of a recession. in fact if you look at the leading indicators 14 consecutive months the series is down. it is down 8% year on year. seems to me the burden still those arguing we'll not have a recession. could this time be different? yes, but highly unlikely unless the fed massively pivots towards rate cuts. charles: which they're promising won't happen. made a pledge almost. that last meeting felt like a pledge. no matter what we're not cutting this year. having said all o
