bart police are really going to try and keep repeat offenders out of the train and off of bart station. addressing assembly bill 716. a new law to create a safer and cleaner bart environment. every officer will get a portable video camera. also looking at ways to change the door design to protect workers. this is part of bart's new strategy for improving safety. certain types of behavior still get a person banned from 30 days to a year. defacing property and urinating in public. has to be cited at least three times to be banned. other more serious crimes like assault could get a person banned the very first time. this law took affect in january. police have been transitioning in a four phase process. they are still in training and the crack down should take full affect this week. kpix 5. >> these measures have already gone into affect in other parts of california and if so were they successful? >> yes, sacramento and fresno have similar laws and both report a decrease in crime. >> all right. see if it works here. thank you. >> 4:38 now. new concerns about bolt s on the new eastern span

a big announcement from bart.art will be partially closing the transbay tube three nights per week. for the next 14 -months. it is part of the ongoing work to make the light rail system more earthquake safe. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with bart officials about what the plan will mean for commuters. train.... starting tuesday evening, bart will begin ramping up it's efforts to improve the seismic safety of the transbay tube. they've been working on the systems around the tube since 2005, but now they need to move inside the tube itself. so, from 10pm to about 4am every tuesday, wednesday and thursday evening for the next 14 months, bart will be limiting train travel through the tube to just one track. that means that evening riders are going to experience a delay of somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes starting around 10pm on those three nights for the next 14 months. during that time work crews will move in with this specialized truck and begin installing 4 ton steel plates inside the tube. the plates are desi
