and bart also charging more. so let's take a look first at bart kron. 4 sarah stinson is live in lafayette this morning. you're talking a lot of people. >> about this and nobody's happy about it. obviously. >> well, we continue to be the bearer of bad news this week. we keep telling people gas prices going up and now bart fares are going up but not by too much. it's about a 3.4% increase. what that means is while you're riding bart, that's $0.15 increase for a ride that would cost you $3.78. of course, as you know, the longer you ride, bart, the more expensive your ride is this fare increase was supposed to go into effect on january first. but bart voted to delay it 6 months because we had a big peak of coronavirus cases at that time. bart says this fare increases well below the current rate of inflation. another example how the fare increase would affect a ride is a short trip from downtown berkeley to 19th street in oakland that would cost you $0.5 more. now, while a longer trip from antioch to montgomery would

if you're on bart this holiday weekend, you can park at bart stations free. bart also is offering a 20% discount for low income passengers. you can apply for that on the bart website. >> also happening now, it's going to be costing you a little bit more money to cross the golden gate bridge. here's a live look at the bridge. as you can see here. cars moving along. well, the toll increases part of the 5 year program that went into effect in 2019. the money from the new tolls will be on paying for the golden gate transit in golden gate ferry transit services as well as maintenance for the bridge. so here's a look at what those new tolls will all costing drivers. the fast users will dealing with $0.35 more. that goes up to 8.40. that hold ill be 8.80, for pay as you go and that's for those of you who registered your license plate in the system and the toll invoice rate will go up to $9.40. the carpool rate. also going up. that toll will be $6.40. all right. going to take a look now at your 4 zone forecast. here's a live look at walnut creek. this is the junction

so bart says they had a drop. some of the electricity runs the train in that area to make sure firefighters put out that fire safely. but as a result, this is what we're seeing here this morning at the concord station here, a lot of these folks here need to get to places like oakland or san francisco, a lot of them for work, a lot of them for other personal reasons as well, and it's a significant delay to their morning today, but there are some adjustments. being made to make sure people can get to where they need to go. this morning. there's a bus bridge now by county connection, bus routes 11, 14 and 15 are taking people from here over to that pleasant hill station. so that way they can have that train ride from there over to whatever destination they need to go to and again that takes you. that's the yellow line. that's antioch's line that takes you through oakland across the bay over to san francisco, sfo and down in millbrae. those bus bridges are creating a little bit of a delay for county connection as well

you're at the bart station there a fire shut down bart service on the yellow line. good news there is that the fire is out. crews have gotten that completely under control, and that wasn't very hard for them to do. but the big problem that's left over from that is what you see behind me this morning here. this is the conference station here, and a lot of these folks are waiting to get to destinations a little closer to the bay or even across the bay into san francisco. we spoke to one man who says that he had to call off of work at his job at the san francisco airport because of delay this morning was just going to be too much. but now bart says they do have the bus bridge that connects the concord station. in where we are this morning. over to the pleasant hill station. that's about a difference of about 3.5 miles here. there are a total of five busses for that bus bridge was a lines 11, 14 and 15. so if you're headed out the door this morning if you're headed from antioch or anywhere in the east bay that would have have you crossed through the concord area. that's

no word on when service will be restored for bart. it is unclear why exactly this person went on to the tracks. >> oakland police are searching for 2 suspects after a man there was gunned down yesterday. this happened just after 11 in the morning on 13th avenue just a few blocks away from san antonio park field. according to police, the 2 suspects approached the car of congo long and tried to carjack him. the confrontation led to an argument and then that led to gunfire. when police arrived to the scene, van have died from his injuries. oakland police chief leronne armstrong says this homicide is an example of a much bigger problem. >> but unfortunately, this tragic incident that happened. yesterday to midst of all. was one that i think. really, you know, brings to reality of what happens when we don't have the resources to be everywhere that we're being asked to be. >> there were 3 homicides reported in oakland this past weekend bringing the total number of people killed to 64 this year to compare. there were 72 people killed by this

time is now 8 24 after a bart train derailment last month in the east bay, bart is now blaming overheatedtracks on a really hot day. ktvu is tom baker explained more about how bart is just one example of how the heat is taking a toll on key bay area infrastructure. five weeks ago, two part cars derailed between pleasant hill and conquered stations, causing only a few minor injuries. the tracks got so heated on that sweltering day they simply couldn't support the weight of the train. the combination of the rails and the speed and the weight with the high heat, then you started to get these kinks as they refer to them real engineering expert professor paul chan on ski says bart is hardly the first rail line to experience this. this has been a risk ever since railroads were put in place in 2017. bart ordered trains to slow down on a very hot day. but had no formal procedures. since this derail it has imposed a slow down to half speed in areas that exceed 100 degrees. slowdown rule is absolutely essential. the game changer global warming with far higher and longer heat events, especially in t

so if you are taking bart. >> the bart train a stop between concord and pleasant hill because of a grass fire there. so what they've had to do is cut the power in that area while they're trying to work on that fire, get that fire put out. so there's a major delay because of that on the antioch line heading to as a fall and the anti out direction. so if you live in that area, they're providing mutual aid. they have a few buses running in that area. this is going to be an issue for some time because it's fire season. we don't have an update on where they are in terms of putting out that fire. if you're driving, though, this morning, 70 minute drive traveling into the city wants to reach the maze to that fremont street exit. well, the san mateo bridge it from a 80 to one o one just under 15 minutes to make that drive. a richmond center fell bridge were down to 13 minutes. i'm not seeing major delays there. if you're taking our highways like here in the south bay along one, 0, one. we had some earlier issues along one on one. so a 45 minute drive traveling from 85 up to menlo park. and we're
