by contrast from most of the time i've been on the board of supervisors the walk from the bart at un plaza to city hall has been something that any san franciscan to visit relatives or persons from other san franciscans i don't remember that was during the pandemic or prior to the pandemic by a period you actually were walking through an actual drug market to walk from the escalator and i remember having discussions with folks from the department of emergency management during the pandemic time about how insane a unafraid drug market running as people tried to get back and forth from the bart station that is before the center the like this center made that worse and - but it closed and things have gotten better and rec and park in the un plaza i think has been doing as good of a good as can be given the underlying significant historic long-standing challenges in the place. i also want to thank ms. soto from the cb d they're the, you know. unsung heros of many san franciscan neighborhoods i'm grateful two of my neighborhoods being the executive director has got to be one of the most c

bart. so we have over 4000 cameras in the system. we've got our brand new fleet of the future trains out there. they were built with state of the art digital cameras on board. so we are capturing cctv images of the activity in the system at all times. and we use that to make sure that we're able to respond promptly to incidents as they happen. and also have thorough investigations for those infrequent incidents that do occur or that require an investigation. you mentioned infrequent incidents, and there was one that sort of stuck in my mind. it was at 19 street bart station a couple of weeks ago here in oakland. someone was stabbed on a train very late at night. statistically, it doesn't happen all the time, but hearing that an unprovoked attack resulted in serious injuries is enough to scare some people away from riding. bart what were the factors that combined that lead to a quick arrest in that case? were the cameras part of it? yeah. so prompt notification on officers that are in the area patrolling actively and are able to get there quickly and good descriptions and then video evidence of what happened helps us seal the case that we're going to bring
