and then of course there's the 2009 shooting of oscar grant by a white bart police officer who servedust a few months in jail for grant's death, much to the dismay of grant supporters. that's an awful lot of examples, and we can give others. >> are we getting better here in california? what do the numbers suggest? >> reporter: it depends on one's point of view. that's the race issue. some brief that african-americans have greater propensity to commit crime. others say they are singled out because of their race and are subjected to a racist judicial system. we know this. california prisons are filled disproportionately with people of color. here are statistics that plea blow your mind. the biggest thing that stands out is that african-americans are 29% of the state's prison population. you can see there's a major disconnect here when it comes to african-americans between population and incarceration. and it's the case here. it's the case elsewhere. nationally, one outkhkñ of ever6 adult white males is in prison compared with one out of every 36 latinos. and by the way, if you look at a
