i husband made more money -- my husband made more money sometimes when he was bartending to put himselfough college --become a teacher then blunt become a teacher than once he became a teacher. she couldn't quite make it. she was very talented, but academically, just couldn't quite make the cut to become a teacher because it is such a high bar. so she did what a lot of people in that country do when you are good academically but not quite good enough to become a teacher. she became a doctor instead. that was her fallback plan. that's what it can be like in a country that really takes teaching seriously. we know part of that is just compensation. i believe we need to cut the shortage in rural areas of teachers with grow your own programs that encourage people to serve the communities that produced them, and we need to put funding behind that. when we do that, we will be better off. no question, we need to make thatwe have more programs help kids prepare for how to be fluent in technology and survive in the new machine age. let's not forget arts education because we are not just training
