basf has given to the majority republicans. a rival firm has spent just over $400,000, most of it also going to republican candidates as well. t-mobile has taken a more bipartisan approach. concluding just under $300,000 to candidates of both parties, but republicans have cashed in on nearly $200,000 for the nations from german engineering giant siemens. german-based firms have open on congressional as opposed presidential candidates but they do have a clear preference, and it's not for donald trump, who they consider unpredictable. most companies are called by his anti-free-trade rhetoric and german affiliated pacs have contributed only of $2000 to his campaign. >> what are -- what are the motivations behind the donation? >> one point that is pretty important, a lot of this money is actually going to the congressional elections, to representatives and not the main candidate, hillary clinton or donald trump. quite often not just true for german companies but for a lot of other one companies that tend to give money as far as the

basf dropping out for the bidding for monsanto. kind of left them alone in the woods. at it alone? can they go at it alone in environment where commodity prices are falling even more. you talked about how coal and everything. that is part of the commodities universe. that is not good for agricultural company, so they're looking at, you know issues here. liz: they better take it. 130 bucks if that is the case? >> listen, bayer really wants to buy them. when you got someone on the other end that really wants to buy them, you might want to hold out until you get the best bid. that is what we're talking about. the rubber will meet the road in the next two weeks. that is the sort of time frame i hear. it is higher bid, likely to do the deal, something in that 130, 130 plus range to do the deal or bayer says enough. that's what with we're hearing here. am i getting a wrap after 35 seconds? i mean, what, am i -- liz: folk, wrap means, wrap it up. >> am i chopped liver? liz: it is clock. fighting the clock. seven minutes until the closing bell. by the way i love chopped liver.

given they have to dispose a number of assets, not often at the party is basf. >> they have been theeen willing to do $50 billion acquisitions to be a game changer for the company. this is a $55 billion deal or higher for monsanto, and it does not seem like basf will get in the middle of it. more than likely, they will see what assets are sold off by bayer down the road, if a deal is done. jonathan: fascinating story. imagine taking the ceo job in may and then say i'm going after the biggest takeover in german history. we are going to get this done. now we want to turn to best buy, the largest u.s. electronics retailer reported earnings that boosted confidence after years of sluggish growth. joining us now is our retail analyst. this was a surprise quarter pretty much any way you slice it. what did best buy do right over the last three months? contrary to their expectations, some of the product categories were better than people expected. they called out tablets which did not drop as much, phones were better than expected, and tvs, the price drops got people to buy a few more. consum

jeff: we know that basf talked to monsanto, but that was not for all of monsanto. together and pieces of monsanto. at this point, it looks like this is the only one right now for monsanto. a mother -- a lot of other ideas have gotten done. this has consolidated for the rapidly. david: jeff mccracken, global managing editor for mergers and acquisitions. jonathan: big day for the bond market on friday. yields are higher. suzanne barton was very busy on friday. a big week for supply with $62 billion coming to market. what are you looking for specifically in those auctions? suzanne: we have seen on repricing of treasuries and we have seen yields climb the most since the brexit vote. there is still a scarcity of high-quality liquid assets around the world. there will still be demand for treasuries, even the looks like the economy is getting better. ofre is still a scarcity high-quality liquid assets and people want treasures. jonathan: the delicate dance between what has happened domestically in united states and abroad -- how does that factor into the big speech we are
