we did just speak to the battalion chief. she told us an extension cord is to blame for the fire. 3:30 this morning the fire broke out of the apartment building. we have pictures you will see only on two of the inside of the womans second story unit where the fire began. luckily that woman smelled smoke, she woke up and walked out. now around 4:30 crews transported her to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and other medical issues. firefighter were able to get the flames under control here. >> it was located in the back of the apartment. when the first crew did arrive there was no initial condition on scene. due to their initiative they were able to locate the fire very quickly. >> reporter: crews were able to evacuate the other people living in the other 15 units. no one was hurt. there is no damage estimate as of now. again, the cause for this fire we're told is an extension cord. it may have been plugged into a space heater. live in oakland i'm tara moriarty. >>> overnight fire in san jose destroyed a backyard
