we did just talk to an oakland fire battalion chief and got some new information. we will start out by taking a live look at the scene now and break down exactly what we know. you are looking at the four plex on 31st and martin luther king jr. way. now that the sun is up, you're getting a good look at exactly how extensive this damage is. battalion chief heather mosby said all nine residents living in this building got out safely. firefighters also rescued two cats and reunited them with their owner. one firefighter was treated for a hand injury. the calls came in at 3:20 am this morning for the fire that possibly started outside the building in a courtyard area. but we don't know how. they are investing the cause but it does not appear to be suspicious. 45 firefighters rushed to the scene and were inside the building for 25 minutes trying to put out the flames but the damage is extensive. the roof collapsed and there is a lot of other smoke, fire and water damage. crews worked hard and mosby credits them for not allowing it to spread to other buildings. she talked
