now the bay bridge has bay bridge white. a unique blend of white and the contractors, frank somerville mentioned it last night. the contractors got their inspiration from the white cranes over in oakland. so the chp warning drivers as you take a look at the beautiful white bridge, they are looking for speeders and people who are gonna slow down and take pictures. the speed limit once you get past the metering lights is 50 miles an hour. please be safe. the good news, the bridge is open -- did open several hours ahead of schedule. the chp dash the chp reminds everyone it's not only illegal to stop and pull over, you can only do that for an emergency. otherwise, it's illegal. let's check -- let's check in with tara moriarty. >> reporter: some people are asking why the five lanes. that's because this was a seismic safety project. take a look. you can see the beautiful shot of the bridges. the sun is coming up here. that being said adding lanes to the eastern span would throw traffic on the western span. after 11 years of constr

it's seeped in to the bay. and because of that our temperatures will actually be cooler along the coast today. still feeling pretty good. this came in last night and we're dealing with it this morning. we will see an early burn-off in most locations. partly cloudy skies expected for the coast this afternoon. so that is what you can expect for today with temperatures reaching near 100 degrees or even hitting 100 degrees by the second half of the day for our inland cities. it's going to be not as hot around the bay although will still be quite warm. upper 60s to mid 70s for the afternoon. 75 in san francisco. yesterday you hit 83 so still a beautiful day just not as warm. low 80s for the east bay shoreline. you get well inland and temperatures soaring once again, back to the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. that expected in brent wood today and livermore. on a grand scale of things, subtle changes in the forecast for monday. finally a cool-down begins for all of us on tuesday. 94 for inland communities. 80 degrees

"today in the bay's" christie smith is live in san leandro where investigators are looking for a cause. >> reporter: i just had a chance to speak with a neighbor at the trailer park. it was around 3:30 in the morning. she started smelling smoke and it just kept getting stronger and stronger. she knew something was wrong. she went outside with another neighbor and they saw smoke coming from a trailer in the front of this trailer park. they believe that an elderly woman was inside. they tell me they banged on the window

breaking news in the south bay. officers are on the hunt this morning for a deadly hit-and-run driver, this crash happening less than two hours ago near the intersection of first street and sky port in san jose. "today in the bay's" bob redell has been on scene gathering information. he's live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, jon. share police want to find the driver of that silver mercedes over my shoulder that was involved in this very serious auto accident that killed two women. it happened around 3:20 this morning, not far from norman mineta here. the two women in the toyota yaris were making a left-hand turn off north first onto sky port when they collided with the mercedes. it's not clear who had the right-of-way. the collision, however, was so severe. one of the women didn't survive long enough to make to it the hospital. she was declared dead on the scene. the other one side at the hospital. it's hard to tell how badly hurt the driver of that silver mercedes is. clearly okay enough to get out of t

"today in the bay's" bob redell g jo joins us live with a story only on nbc bay area. >> reporter: goodvil lawsuit filed tuesday here in santa clara county, makes strong accusations against 49ers linebacker aldon smith and former 49 liner and current titan delanie walker. ronndale esporlas claims in the lawsuit he was shot twice, that he sustains serious and permits injuries but does not know who the gunman was. this the first public document to provide details of a party that took place june 29th last year, up this road, in the east san jose foothills at smith's home. the lawsuit says smith and walker, who were legally intoxicated, appeared on the balcony of smith's home and fired shots into the air in an apparent effort to end the party. walker then made his way to the driveway where he allegedly fired more shots into the air and towards others attending the party. the suit claims both men knew the handguns were illegally possessed. nbc bay area obtained these pictures from neighbors showing crime scene investigators camped outside smith's home. we have obtained this incident report f

it's a historic morning for bay bridge commuters. the new bay bridge now open for business. last night chp took down the barricades at the on-ramps and interchanges and that let traffic flow to the bridge for the first time since wednesday night during the closure. the scheduled opening was 5:00 a.m. this morning. construction went well. you saw it live last night. we were here during the ribbon cutting. when the cars were allowed just after 10:00 last night, hours before the deadline, which is much better for the morning commute to have this bridge open up last night instead of this morning. now, the chp asking drivers please do not stop to take in the view or take in any pictures. it is certainly dangerous. it will be tempting for people because this is brand-new and it's gorgeous. it's very pretty. the views are nice. the lights are bright. but chp says stopping for any reason other than an emergency is illegal, it's dangerous and you can be cited. it is a moving violation. that will be reflected on your driving record on your insurance. officers will be patrolling the br
