bay. good morning to you on this wednesday. i'm marcus washington. and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that morning commute with mike, see if things are picking up. but first, a look at the forecast right now with meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect another cool morning. and we have such nice weather yesterday. it continues today. but then we'll start to see some clouds coming in. we're getting ready for some rain ahead. look at how chilly it is right now, mainly in the north bay. we're seeing upper 30s as you're heading out. it is 38 degrees in santa rosa. it is 52 in san francisco, and we're seeing a lot of 40s for the inland east bay as well as the south bay. we are going to see clouds moving in out ahead of this system. that will bring in some rain late tonight. so far it's some light rain up around ukiah and we'll see that eventually making it into the rest of the bay area. now, mike, you've been watching some folks working this morning. yeah, just like over in the traff

that includes several hundred customers in four bay bay area counties. meteorologist kari hall is tracking conditions. we are going to see those highs over 100 degrees today. we may be setting some records and we're dealing with not only that, but unhealthy air quality. it is a spare the air alert day and we're also once again looking at that elevated fire danger. and some of our inland valleys will be even hotter tomorrow. we're looking at gilroy high 112 degrees, so we'll be watching all of this for you. and a great tool to track these temperatures and possible power shutoffs is our free nbc bay area app. you can find it in your local app store. new overnight police investigating new round of gun violence in two late night shootings in oakland. the first happened around 1030 near emeryville on 62nd street and herzog. police off camera told our photographer at the scene. one man was shot multiple times and is critically injured. so far, oakland police are not commenting on an apparent shooting just before midnight near oakland city center. video shows p

just trying to make it in the bay in daly city, ginger conejero saab today in the bay.ery much so. thank you ginger. well, new at 6:00. oakland keeping technology around that is aimed at combating violence. last night, city leaders approved a new contract for its shotspotter technology. as a result, it will remain in oakland through at least september. shotspotter uses sensors to detect gunshots. the information is then sent to oakland police. well, turning now to decision 2024. early voting underway in ten states from coast to coast. record in-person turnout happening in georgia, which is a swing state. 300,000 people already casting their ballots on day one of early voting. now, casting ballots before election day is something both candidates are encouraging today in the bay's alice barr live in washington. this morning with us. and this comes as those candidates continue their crisscross across their crisscross across the nation, marcus. and as they're trying to get the message out, both nominees are going to be appearing on fox news today for vice president harris.

bay's. bob redell joins us live from the scene this morning. do we know anything else about the driver? we are in touch with the fremont police department. we are still trying to confirm whether or not the driver survived this crash that took place behind me here at this apartment complex in fremont, near the intersection of warm springs and south grimmer. that's not far from the bart station. if you're familiar with this area, our own pete suratos, who is on the scene last night, says he was told the driver was still in the car and there was no obvious attempt to immediately pull him out, suggesting that the driver might not have survived the crash. so, as you can see behind me, there's still some damage. there's this metal pole that was knocked down when the car careened through here, and then it went into the side of the building there, where you see the black boards are now up some workers were out here overnight fixing the damage. so that's all that is left of what we, you know, saw fro

inland east bay.id or mid to upper 60s and highs up to about 68. in the south bay, the accuweather seven day forecast shows morning showers for tomorrow, halloween, a system, a rainfall system, ranking level one on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale late friday night. more rain will arrive, continuing into saturday morning. another level one system. don't forget to set your clocks back to standard time going into sunday, and we can expect milder, warmer weather early next week, especially on tuesd this distinctive home, known as the castro castle. it was the home to the late dennis peron, an activist who helped helped drive the legalization of medical marijuana. peron's loved ones are figuring out the future of the museum on 17th street in the castro district. abc seven news reporter tim johns has our story from the outside. >> the bright exterior of the so-called castro castle might look like several homes in this notoriously colorful neighborhood. but go inside and you'll experience a living

the best chance will be in the east bay and the south bay. so we'll get a closer look at that and how much rain to expect in a few minutes. mike, you're looking at the flow of the traffic through the bay bridge toll plaza, right? because sometimes many days, many weekdays, we'll see the backups starting to form right at the edge of the screen. we don't even see any slowing right now. so the flow maintains that even pace. we saw ten minutes ago. again, though, this is a holiday for a lot of banks. and of course, the federal offices like the post office. so there may be fewer folks on the road for the early commute. we are looking at highway 37 showing a traditional slowing pattern. highway 4 shows traditional areas, but again, monday's are lighter. tomorrow, tuesday will kick in a little more strongly. no major issues. this will be a surprise for some folks, but you're seeing it here. you're warned there will be a closure for eastbound 37 starting tonight at ten through ten tomorrow morning. that will go on nightly for this week, eastbound aga

the bay area.of course, we're watching that forecast very closely for the 49ers game on sunday, but it looks like for most of us it's going to be a few hundredths of an inch of rain if we measure anything at all. and that's coming in between sunday evening into early monday. and then we're looking at clearing weather, but much cooler temperatures, and we will really feel it for those early mornings next week with our morning lows starting out in the mid 40s. and mike, you have a look at the south bay commute. yeah crash in sunnyvale mountain view. so 101 at 237 it's on the shoulder. might be a distraction but not a lot of additional slowing. there is more slowing because of the volume 101 87 and 85. look at that pushing up here in toward just shy of union over here as you're getting in toward highway 17. pretty standard and more traffic feeding in out of south county san martin. the issue on the bay bridge never turned out to be a problem. there is a crew helping a disabled vehicle inside the treas

right after today in the bay. defense attorneys later this morning will resume cross-examination of the key witness in the murder trial of bob lee. nima momeni is accused of stabbing and killing lee in the fall of 2023, in san francisco. now, lee was a tech ceo and founder of cash app mo min. his sister kazu's testimony yesterday centered around the use of drugs. now, his attorneys claim that their client killed the cash app founder in self-defense. this is after lee pulled a knife in a drug fueled rage. the judge says that that trial may continue through at least mid-december. new at 6a6 figure dispute over unpaid bills has now led to the seizure of a hong kong based ship docked in west sacramento. federal marshals seized it last week, ordering the 21 crew members not to leave the ship, which is named the china spirit. investigators say the owners owe $400,000 as part of an unpaid fuel bill. the dispute is playing in court, and one attorney for the plaintiff says the payment is now being processed. but if the bil

east bay. it's a few low 80s from walnut creek over toward antioch. while mostly in the upper 70s for the tri-valley and danville today, up to 79 degrees 73 will be the high in oakland. really nice and comfortable as well for the peninsula, with some low to mid 70s and upper 60s in san francisco once again. today we may see a little bit more sunshine at least the start. and then looking at our highs in the north bay, 82 in santa rosa and 79 in sonoma, and then ahead we've been watching this rain talking a lot about it. even though unfortunately a lot of the rain just kind of skips around us. and we'll head mostly toward the sierra. but there will be that chance through the morning commute tomorrow that we could see at least some light spotty showers moving through, but it looks like parts of the north bay see the sees the rain at about 8 to 9:00 and then possibly in the east bay before lunchtime, and then the rest of the day. it's already clearing out. so our rain model shows that we're going t

it includes a north bay, south bay, east bay and even parts of the peninsula. as john mentioned earlier, inland temperatures reaching over 100 areas along the coast, reaching around. 95 now back in july, as we mentioned earlier, santa clara county was seeing a similar week at that point based on 19 excessive heat related deaths after investigating, they found 9 cases involved people over 65 4 involved the homeless, which is why officials say you really need to be prepared. we have some graphics on your screen of exactly knowing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. and remember, you always want to stay in the shade, drink that water wear loose clothing and just know when to take a break. if you're feeling dizzy, thirsty, weak and nauseous. i'm sweating a lot that it is heat exhaustion and you need to move replace if you're feeling confused, dizzy or like you may lose consciousness at that point, it could be a heat stroke and you need to call 9-1-1. now, unfortunately not everybody does have air conditions, however, of the counties to offer coo

half moon bay.is three degrees cooler in san jose at 68 this morning and a few degrees cooler up in the north bay. santa rosa is at 5960 in napa. and looking at our wind flow today, this really tells the story as well. the winds kicking up along the coast will be moving faster, 20 to 25 miles an hour by the afternoon and a bit of a breeze getting inside the bay. taking it further into your tuesday where the winds will be up to 30 miles an hour and we really will begin to see the temperatures near average, then below average. so today in the south bay, 94, in san jose, day eight of our heat wave, 93 in milpitas. not as hot today on the peninsula. definitely feeling a bit better throughout the afternoon with low to mid 80s. san mateo about 90. in redwood city. it's been in the upper 90s to near 100 there the past several days. 84 downtown. looking at those upper 70s in the sunset and in the north bay. and it really is going to be another scorcher for you. where temperatures will be at or near 100, but

some chilly low 50s in the north bay and the east bay right here at 57 as well. daytime highs for tomorrow. warming up, but not too hot. you know, this time last week we were still in a heat wave. we had temperatures up to 109 in that heat wave. so these numbers man this is just kind of on easy street here for us tomorrow 81 up into santa rosa, 68 in san francisco, 80 in livermore, 78 in san jose, 75 right there in palo alto. so by the time we get to wednesday, we'll see that system dropping down over northern california. it's going to break up over the bay area. so the best chance of rain, the way it looks now would be on the eastern side of california. you can see it on our accumulated rain map here, about a quarter to a half inch here for some of the sierra mountains for us, maybe a shower, pop in here for the east bay, south bay, and just north of santa rosa. so we'll keep an eye on that. maybe a little something here on wednesday. the larger headline, i think, is really going to get here once we hit thursday, friday and saturday. way the weather pattern is s

for most of the bay area. and, of course, under these excessively hot condition, there's an increased risk of heat related illnesses. now, tonight, overnight lows will be, well, not very low, mainly in the mid to upper 60s. so it's going to be uncomfortably and unusually warm across most of the region. then tomorrow, another hot day is coming our way from the bay, where we'll see highs in the mid to upper seconds, to inland areas where we'll see highs up to about 104 degrees. it will just be hot once again and it's going to be hot for the game. the game at levi's stadium tomorrow as the 40 niners take on the arizona cardinals. game time 105. kickoff time. i should say 96 degrees. temperature expected to rise to about 100 degrees as they get into the fourth quarter. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. how to get on monday with highs inland. once again hitting the triple digit mark. but notice on tuesday it starts to cool. just a bit and they'll be further cooling going into the remainder of the week. and

widespread throughout the bay from san francisco, across the bay bridge over into oakland. upper 60s expected today off into the east bay where we were just in the 70s yesterday with sunny skies. now we're starting to see those clouds roll in later and later into the evening hours tonight as we gear up for more showers into the overnight hours. now that's going to start up in the north bay. the system is actually meant for the pacific northwest. they're getting the heavy bulk of the showers. however, we're getting the leftovers for what it's worth, we're seeing about 100th of an inch of rain all the way up into the north bay and off into the east bay, into the overnight hours tonight, here's what it's looking like by early morning hours tomorrow if you're an early riser, well, you might be using those windshield wipers, but that's just around 4 a.m. throughout most of the bay area. we clear up fast as we head into the afternoon hours tomorrow. still some light scattered showers and some unsettled weather in the forecast up in the north bay as we head into the evening hours

well, 707, is the time in the east bay. elsewhere, we have to bart station is back open this morning after someone died from a medical emergency. >> we first brought you this story last night. bart officials closed the fruitvale in lake merritt stations at about 09:00pm as they were responding to that emergency. you can see people being evacuated. well, now we're learning a corner had to be called to the fruitvale station. and as a result, power had to be cut at the lake merritt station because of what was going on over there. true bill bart officials say both the fruitvale and lake merritt stations are running. normally this morning. we're going to keep you updated on that death investigation. as we learn more. well, a man is in jail this morning after police say he sexually assaulted children in concord. police say 47 year-old emilio martinez, alec, on is charged with a great ag riveted assault of a child and lewd acts on a child. he's in jail right now on 11 million dollars bail. police are asking if there any other poss

record breaking heat across the bay area.ome cities hitting temperatures not seen in nearly 100 years. here are just some of the records here in santa rosa. yesterday, a high of 102 degrees. that hasn't happened since 1930. san francisco also breaking records. if you see yellow, that means you're in trouble there. exactly. let's check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranier. records just continuing to break. we've had a streak of this, jeff. eight days now of this heat. we're ready to see i. get out of here. and as we take a look at those temperatures today, some of the hottest coming in right here in gilroy, 103, 102 in concord. santa rosa, 101. redwood city, also at 99. and the official records have now come in, and we have set one here in concord with that 102, also a new one here in livermore tying it. santa rosa a new record. san jose, a new record. and we got close in san francisco with 92. the record that still remains is 98, which was back in 1996. but all in all, as we have been talking about, this heat wave has gone

here's a look live from the east bay hills looking down into the bay. what's the thing that you notice most different from yesterday? it's a lack of fog. yesterday we saw a whole lot of that low gray pushed right in over the bay area this morning seeing hardly any of it. high pressure. ridge is still in place, but it is not influencing our weather quite as much. this low to the north and west of us is anchoring a nice little trough in the jet that is actually resulting in this weekend and opportunity of rainfall in the state. now, most of this is going to stay north of the bay area. but in future cast, you can see this line of showers drifting in here during a pre-dawn hours of saturday morning up in the north coast. now, this is really going to fizzle in just skirt right to our north. but for northern counties in the bay area, we do have a slim chance of a sprinkler to come saturday, mostly early on in the day. now, the shouldn't have major impacts on fleet week as we will be seeing these rainfall totals really just gathered up to the north of the bay
