nbc bay area's marianne favre row joins us. marianne, what next?> reporter: well, when i talk to people here who go to garden city, they say what they're going to remember most is not the money they won or lost here but the food and friendships they found at the card tables. when the doors to the new casino matrix in san jose open in april, garden city will close and with it a lot of history. >> it's a lantd mark to me. i mean, my parents used to go there when i was a kid, have dinner, have -- best prime rib in town. >> reporter: garden city opened in 1946 at another location on south market street before moving here to saratoga avenue in the early '70s. dan jeppson's unkelz both worked at garden city and he's been playing poker here the past 12 years. >> it's fun. it's exciting. they've got good food here. it's just somewhere i can come and get away from it all, like my home away from home. >> reporter: he also remembers the big wins. >> one night i won like six pots in a row so i basically just cashed in and left rfrnlts walter robertson says he'

showers around the south bay and all the way to the evening, heavier rain hung up over the central bay area taking us to wednesday morning and we're seeing rain or more moderate to heavy rain push out of the north bay because this is the wettest part of the week. this is your wednesday commute. especially down to the south bay and central bay locations. early thursday, a brief break. you see another system dropping in as you go through thursday afternoon. the system stalls in the north bay. in the south bay, about half an inch or so in san jose, about three to four inches here in fact santa cruz mountains we sometimes see this. it's called a mountain rain shadow. you'll see plenty of wind in the south bay for tomorrow morning. our temperatures will be mild with a southerly breeze. temperatures close to 60 in san jose. 50s around san francisco and really, it's going to be the north bay that gets the bulk of the rain for tomorrow and early wednesday. then we'll see the brief break. this will cap in as we get to thursday and a much colder system dorops in. so for tomorrow and early wednesday,

bay and now that continues to push off to the south and east. but you can see with the moisture kind of rotating around an area of low pressure to the south, we'veeen watching the moisture dropping out of the north bay into the tri-valley now and into the santa clara mountains, to the east which includes obviously mount hamilton. so the jet stream which has been off to the north for most of the winter now has actually moved south of the bay area. and when you're on the north side of the jet stream that's where the cold air starts to spill on down. which we're seeing right now. and the cold air will actually drop snow levels even more tonight. at least low enough to get to mount diablo. close to 3600 feet to 3800 feet and as low as skyline boulevard or mount tam tomorrow morning. >> hour by hour, you're seeing the swiss cheese effect with the showers, still indicating some unstable air with the heating of the day. destabilizes the atmosphere from noon to about 6:00, just like we're seeing right now. as we head through the afternoon and evening, you'll see the showers start to back off and the moisture heading to the east as we get into monday. in

vigil here last night with the family members and also the community as more than 100 members of bay area search and rescue teams fanned out on saturday to find additional clues. they scoured an area, finding no new clues of the girl's disappearance. investigators essentially took the day off yesterday saying that it wanted to reevaluate all the evidence collected so far to focus the search in the weeks ahead. but that vigil last night her mother expressed thanks for the efforts of the searchers and the support of the community. >> it is amazing how everyone is coming together. sierra is going to be so amazed, i'm saving all the stuff because she is going to come back and i want her to see how much she is loved. >> lou piniella law enforcement has not yet outlined their next test, beginning tomorrow the class kids foundation will organize a community volunteer search effort which will take place every day this week. beginning tomorrow all the way through saturday. this volunteer search effort is open to anyone over 18 years of age. they ask that you come to burnett elementary school in mo

one of the biggest right here in the bay area. nbc bay area's christie smith joins us live at uc berkeley where students and faculty are taking decision makers to task for rising tuition costs. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. their big rally is supposed to start in an hour here at uc berkeley, but boy, they really picked aing so day for a protest. despite the raindrops and the cold, and the group of protesters are on campus and they surrounded one of the buildings with crime scene tape with many administrators and those who make financial decisions come and go, but they didn't block people who wanted to pass. this is a strike, a day of action over tuition hikes and what they see is budget cuts, public education that make it an affordable and leave students saddled with mountains of debt. one parent says he's upset because the university is giving so many spots to out of state students who pay more who is edging out local students. >> a thousand per year have been lost to out of state students, and i'

nbc bay area's martin francis joins us with the story. when did this happen and what are the parents doing about it? >> reporter: one of the things is they are passing out fliers like this one with the sketch of the suspicious man. parents are volunteering to come in and patrol the school grounds themselves. this is a sketch of the man police say sneaked onto the campus of george washington elementary school last friday, went into a girl's restroom and took photos of female students. >> he manipulated the other stalls and used girls to only use available stalls next to him and also had hand held communication device or a camera. >> reporter: investigators say at least four girls saw the peeping tom, one of the girls ran to tell a teacher who confronted the man. >> he had no business being in the restroom. he proceeded to say that he was just in need of a restroom and clearly our restrooms are marked, they're labelled. there's a sign that there's no adults allowed. >> reporter: when the teacher said she was calling the police, the man took
