>>> nbc bay area news starts now. >> good evening. i'm diane dwyer. federal agents are stepping into investigate a fire in vallejo that they say could be a case of domestic terrorism. the fire burned the law offices of the mayor of vallejo, and a investigators are trying to figure out who might want to target the mayor and why. nbc bay area's monte francis has the latest on the investigation for us from vallejo. monte? >> reporter: well, diane, good evening. you can see behind me that the building has been all boarded up. the building is considered a total loss, although some of the contents were salvaged. agents from the fbi and the atf are expected to join this investigation some time tomorrow. when vallejo mayor osby davis saw the magnitude of the damage to the law office he shares with michael thompson, the mayor couldn't help but shed a few tears. davis later told the vallejo times herald to say he is upset would be an understatement. the fire was reported at about 1:30 saturday morning at the small office building on tuolumne street across from

they do want to fly over the major science center museums here in the bay area. up in oakland, they have a viewing party, in berkeley, then across the bay, the golden gate bridge. we understand they'll probably get a low buzz-cut flyovers at 1500 feet. the bay area discovery museum in sausalito will get a flyover. so will the exploratoryum. this will be a tribute to the men and women here at nasa ames who helped launch the program. they perfected the heat shield tiles and performed early wind tunnel tests. this is also where astronauts came to train in the shuttle simulator. some of those very astronauts, including steve robinson who flu "endeavour" will be here at today's tribute and they're also here to say goodway to the fifth and final shuttle in the space program that flew over 122 million miles during 25 missions. of course she'll head south later today and eventually go on display in a museum in los angeles. you might be able to hear some of those astronauts speak. there's a speaking program starting at 8:00. gates open at 6:00. you need a parking permit. i

nbc bay area news. >> thanks for the update. >>> police in the east bay city of pittsburg are investigating a shooting at a park last night that killed an 18-year-old man. the teenager was at buchanan park with at least four other people including younger siblings, according to police. they were there to film a rap video. investigators say around 6:15, another group approached and an argument between the two parties escalated to the shooting. >> it is very seldom to you find a young dude that's trying to do right. he wasn't in the streets. he rapped it, he didn't live it. he wasn't out here. and somebody's going to gun him down like trash, like garbage in the streets in that's wrong. dead wrong. >> investigators are reviewing surveillance video from nearby cameras. but they are also asking anyone with information about the gunman to come forward. the shooting happened well before sundown and several other people were in the park at the time. we're also told the 18-year-old victim had a 1-year-old child. >>> two homicide detectives in indianapolis have been assigned to investigate the death

tomorrow it will fly over several bay area landmarks. mary ann favreau has more. >> reporter: people are very excited here, you can see they've already set up some chairs. but because of the big crowds expected here early tomorrow morning, most people will have to stand with their cameras ready to take a picture of history. the space shuttle program is retiring with a first ever flight over the bay area. here in mountain view, crews are preparing for thousands of visitors who are expected to flood the air field friday to see history in the air. >> we expect anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 people to come right here to moffett field. our gates will be open early. we've encouraged people to walk, bike, take light rail. we've given away all of our parking passes. >> reporter: which means if you don't have a pass, the only way to get on to the air field is to walk or bike. >> it was an amazing program. it really advanced us in space and i think it would be great if everyone could see it and thank it for years of service. >> reporter: many see t

crowds are gathering to watch the retired shuttle fly over the bay area. it is leaving in a couple of hours from edwards air force base in southern california. and mackovic is somewhere in the masses and as we can see, the doors are open >> i'm here at the front gates of moffett field where nasa has their base and hundreds of thousands of people will be expected here by the end of the morning. hundreds of people have got up early in the morning for the few minutes they conceive the space shuttle fly overhead. here is the schedule for today. the shuttle will leave southern california at around 815, doing a flyover of the sacramento area right over the state capital and around 930 it will pass over the chabot space and science center and the lawrence hall of science in berkeley. then the shuttle will do a few loops around the bay passing low by the golden gate bridge and then it is onto silicon valley and moffett field. finally, west san jose and then over the monterey bay aquarium. it is landing at edwards air force base piggybacking on a specially modified
