and for the north bay, areas of low cloud cover. the best start will go to the south bay, with temperature at 64. and also less humidity coming in that forecast. so speaking of which, let's go ahead and take you into that thursday. all week long, it has been all about this humidity lingering here across california. also some of those rogue thunderstorms producing some lightning strikes. but by tomorrow, that's going to be the next change. the signal in the forecast as we're going start to see less humidity. any kind of storms also shifting well off to the east. this area of high pressure that pushed up this subtropical moisture from the south is going to begin to fade. but hot air associated will be staying in the forecast. so hot air inland. and then here is the other added layer. right up against the coastline, we're going to have a coastal eddy. what you should know about this, it basically helps to keep the fog a lot stronger at the coastline. so we'll have fog at the coast. hot weather inland. it's going to give us the typical t

nbc bay area's robert honda is live with the details tonight. robert? >> reporter: well, police here in santa cruz say the investigation into the other death could completely change the legal picture, as well as the accused woman's plans for her defense. the santa cruz police department is sending officers to milton, georgia. investigators want to find out if alleged prosecute alix tichelman is responsible for the demise of a georgia man. the 26-year-old woman is accused of injecting what turned out to be a lethal dose of heroin into forrest hayes on his yacht last november. now milton police are re-examining tichelman's involvement in the drug overdose death of a man pictured here from her twitter post, nightclub owner, 53-year-old dean riopelle. a domestic fight in september last year, two weeks later, she called 911 saying riopelle had overdosed on heroin. >> both of our departments are looking for as much information as possible to get to the truth and understand what the circumstances were that involved both of these deaths. >> reporter: tichelman

back in the bay area, students are getting together tonight at 7:00 outside san jose city hall to take part in a peace vigil. >>> an alarming case in the south bay. was this man a serial killer? he was shot and killed last month by sunnyvale place. his name is glen griggs and he may be linked to four suspicious deaths, all four deaths were women in his life. nbc bay area's michelle roberts at the garbage processing center where one of his possible victims was found dead. michelle? >> reporter: raj, in 2006 a woman's body was found here at this trash facility. police say it was suspicious, but no arrests were made. now years later, three other women have either gone missing or been found dead and now their only common denominator is a man named glen griggs. glen griggs was already the prime suspect in a murder when sunnyvale police showed up at his home with a warrant last month. investigators say griggs refused to drop his weapon and it cost him his life. but now there's reason to believe his criminal history may be deeper than police first suspected. >> we will use every bit of inform

but getting some tropical moisture coming into the bay area. starting to see the clouds spilling in to san jose. 76 degrees currently. low clouds over into san francisco. so we have an interesting clash going on. marine air is very cool, stable in the atmosphere. that's what we're seeing in san francisco. but increasing mid level moisture, increasing instability over some of the higher elevations around the bay area. that's going to come into play during day tomorrow. the chance of seeing perhaps a brief isolated thundershower along the coastal range. temperatures around the bay area, cool. some of our highs today only managing mid-80s inland. overall, the weekend off to a mild start with our temperatures in the mid-80s. san jose, 77 degrees. campbell, 84. should see about the same tomorrow. outside right now, seeing more clouds moving in. this is going to set us up for a gorgeous sunset with the mid and high level clouds coming in. that's the fog we're accustomed to seeing in san francisco. but this is unusual. san jose, another surge of monso

nbc bay area's derek shore live at the stadium. derek, one of the team's big wigs stepping up with an explanation about last week's traffic chaos. >> reporter: that's right, and it was friday, scott, that i was standing here, reporting on fans' frustration. those fans coming in to take a look at the new stadium. instead, they say, they were forced to come out ehere and ciy on great america parkway for some time. again, about 30,000 season ticket holders filed in to tour the new stadium. they were one of two groups friday evening. many told me, once they were done sitting on great america parkway, they had a u-turn on tasman because parking lots were full and signs weren't clear where to go. today, the niner's chief operating officer sent an e-mail to those same fans. and while he did not apologize, he reassured ticket holders they are working on and always learning when it comes to their traffic plans. he also reassured fans that not all the lots were opening and stadium goers were also competing with regular friday evening traffic

in the bay area, we turn to meteorologist rob mayeda with our first look at the ert with. this is just a tough situation with no rain at all. >> from the east bay down the peninsula into the south bay, we are now officially in the driest time of the year. as we go from june, july, into august, the rainfall drops off. you expect that given we're now in the middle of summer. what you might not expect is that in july, for san francisco, normally you don't pick up any measurable rainfall. august and september, there's a better chance of seeing that. what's unique about the weather picture this weekend, we could break the climatological rule. a lot of monsoon moisture coming up out of the south. high clouds will come in and it sets us up for a chance of not only seeing increased humidity. we will see a chance overnight of seeing a few showers and possibly some coastal mount range thundershowers, too. we'll talk about that in the forecast in a few minutes. >>> gunfire in san francisco's mission district early this morning, police are searching for the shooter. officers responded

i'm jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >>> now to a nbc bay area follow up. we have new information on the suspect who got away after a botched robbery inside of a jewelry store. this happened yesterday. police describe him as tall, african-american with a heavy build. he's believed to have been shot in the leg or stomach during this robbery. police say he and another suspect identified as jimmy terry exchanged fire with an employee during this robbery. that suspect, terry, and the employee were also wounded. >>> police say a sunnyvale man pretended to be someone else in order to lure teenage girls to send him provocative photos of himself. tonight that suspect is back home, out on bond as detectives try to figure out if there are any other potential victims, derek shore is live where we are learning more about this man's prior criminal history. >> reporter: according to court documents we obtained here in palo alto, that suspect faced sex charges before. now he faces new charges. we tried to get his side of the story. hi, there. i'm derek with nbc bay area.

nbc bay area's robert handa is in the heart of downtown with the details. robert, as you know, this is an area filled with kids and tourists. >> reporter: that's right. in fact, we're at one of the most well known spots in downtown san jose, not a place tourists or local folks usually associate with violence, but police tell me the murder that took place here revealed a spike in violent crime that is barely under control. plaza paints a peaceful picture, but this morning that image was shaken when a man was stabbed to death here by half a dozen attackers. >> i've seen it in other parts of the downtown area, but i honestly didn't think this park area would be an issue. >> reporter: but police sources tell me historically safe spots downtown have become dangerous and that gang-related crime such as the shooting in east san jose less than 12 hours earlier, are now part of the downtown scene. >> we've seen gang turf wars over narcotics and prostitution that we haven't seen in decades. >> reporter: community leaders who work with gangs acknowledge downtown san j

." >>> from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >>> good morning, and thanks for joining once i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. we start with breaking news, police car, crime scene tape roping off the area. police there looking for clues in a deadly overnight stabbing. it's the second homicide in less than 12 hours. right now, the area around plaza de cesar chavez is blocked off. could mean problems for the morning commute. derek shore has been gathering information all morning long, police say it was a group of people that attacked this victim. >> reporter: that's right. and according to police, none of them are in custody. we just spoke to police and they do expect this intersection here at park and mission to remain shut down, at least for the next couple of hours. which will affect the commute. officers tell us just after 2:15 this morning, they got a call into 911 reporting a group, maybe about five to six suspects were attacking someone here near plaza de cesar chavez. by the time officers arrived, they found a man suffering at least one s

now we do have a lot of humidity around the bay area. not really enough to generate showers like we had yesterday, but earlier today, we had drizzle around san francisco and some showers that were in the north bay. those are lifting off to the north and there you see the thunderstorms off to the east over the sierra, but low clouds on the coast made for a drizzly day. but the moisture we're watching isn't so much the coastal fog, but upper level moisture, mid level moisture, riding on in during the morning hours tomorrow, which may provide just enough lift to ring out some drizzle or perhaps a few brief light showers. what we have outside for you right now, even mostly clear skies, humidity levels are really unusually high. 55% there in san jose, 76 degrees, even out towards pleasanton, 50% relative humidity. almost near 80 degrees, you can feel that difference outside. all leads up to a chance of seeing a few showers we think perhaps very early tomorrow morning, most likely on the coast as more clouds spill in tonight. looking at drizzle

we are starting to see it right now spilling from east to west and back to the bay area. again, it's the north bay counties from tonight into tomorrow morning we'll see the most accumulations. maybe almost a .10 in parts of northern sonoma county. this is mainly drizzle and mist for the coastal areas. tomorrow, fog and misty skies for san francisco. then we'll break out sunshine heading into the afternoon. the rainfall projections to wrap up this unusual pattern, maybe just enough to wet the ground. again for tomorrow morning, it could impact your morning commute in a few spots down the coast. maybe near san francisco and heading up to the north bay. a few sprinkles out there, but the models are backing off on some of the rainfall totals for san francisco. not registered anymore more with the latest model processed within the last hour. hayward is mainly seeing heavy drizzle or mist at times. once the system clears out, notice the change in the seven-day forecast with high pressure building in wednesday and thursday. 90s coming back to the valleys. tomorrow, muggy outside
