triggering mandatory evacuation orders as well as warnings all up and down the bay area. e biggest concern right now is the heavy rain in those areas that were ravaged by wildfires last summer and there are a lot of those regions from the santa cruz mountains south to the north bay, this wet weather. >>certainly could trigger heavy debris flows mudslides putting those neighborhoods near the burn zones in real jeopardy workers with the governor's office of emergency services have been trying to coordinate with local public safety agencies to help mitigate the damage from debris flows scalo yes. the fire chief there brian marshall explains why these burn areas are so dangerous during storms like this one. >>so a typical hillside that has made you tesia and trees on it. the vegetation holds the dirt place. and. >>the soil and sores the water. after a wild land fire. the educations gone and the soil has literally been change because of that heat from fire. the no longer absorbs the water. so the water will run not and sigh. in sheets and it will take the dirt. it will take all

throughout the bay area.overnight tonight the rain is exiting before 10:00 tonight, otherwise it's windy along the coast and chilly. now, tomorrow it's a partly cloudy day. so n you the brief break because the rain is going it return on tuesday. in fact, future weather will get you to tuesday. tuesday morning includes will increase. as soon as showers move in from north to south. and really into the overnight hours and wednesday morning, it strengthens and will make landfall in the bay area. bringing with it very heavy rain, especially thursday morning. this is a level 3 strong storm and i want to emphasize the timeline. the worst of the storm will occur, really before 7:00 a.m. while many of us are sleeping. one to two inches of rainfall very likely wednesday morning and wind gustsing over 30 miles per hour. certainly hydro planing is a lot in a short amount of time. we're watching for degree flows, especially in the santa cruz mountains. down trees and power lines were possible. this will be a significant s

the bay area coastline. now that storm is shifting south and east tracking widespread light rain for most of the east bay and also seeing some snow showers in the highest peaks specifically over mount hamilton we could see snow levels tonight dropping as low as 2000 feet with a few inches of fresh powder and we're noticing scattered showers right now starting to exit los altos hills in palo alto now the storms starting to make its way into sunnyvale and san jose so please drive safely for your sunday night commute in addition to that we do have gusty winds so wind advisory currently in effect through monday morning and this is mainly going to impact our bay area coastline we're expecting to see the gusty winds right now through around 10 o'clock for your monday morning we could easily see wind gusts upwards of about 15 miles per hour less some isolated spots along the coast, even gusting as high as 60 miles per hour. and we're also going to notice the gusty east winds shortly before sunrise right around 6.30

nbc bay area's cheryl hurd just arrived on the scene what can you tell us? >> reporter: atmosphere we are at that jacqueline road exit that you're talking about. this wind is wreaking havoc here. as you can see, the chp has that jacqueline road entrance onto 680 blocked off and they're diverting cars off of the freeway to the city streets. this all started around 9:00 when a fire broke out at country club drive in the milpitas hills. at this point we don't know what sparked the fire, but the way the wind is blowing, you can only imagine that the wind had something to do with it. several streets in the area evacuated. we talked to one evacuee who says that he was told to get out quickly. >> yeah, i think there's a fire, and they called me to get out. i realized it was bad, the smoke. it's really, really weird to see all the smoke. >> reporter: when one of our photographers arrived on the scene, he saw the chp putting out flares and letting people know they needed to get off the freeway. coming down here from the east bay, the road was blocked off. we were tol

we have numerous showers all around the bay area, but that is the heaviest rainfall, focused further down 101 from san jose. let's zoom in for a closer look here. we have light showers in the north bay keeping an eye out for debris flow issues there as well. right now, of course we are zoomed in on where the heaviest rain is still coming down. moderate rain in san jose, then it gets heavier as you had further east and southeast e il pockets of moderate and heavy rain within the santa cruz mountains. we still have about another hour to go for this flash flood warning that overlaps with the czu burn scar. as this emerges from the south i think new warnings will have to replace that, whether that happens right at 6:30 or they wait a little bit for the next wave of more substantial moisture to arrive. we will keep you updated on that. the moisture again is just being sent up towards us by the bulk of this atmospheric river with the heaviest rain being aimed further to our south, but plenty of the bay area is getting in on all of this rainfall. we will add it up with a closer look at it ac
