lots of 60s here throughout the bay area. we might get into a few low 70s here for parts of the south bay. right now i've got you at 69 here in san jose. 66 for napa. now, beyond this we are tracking that system as you roll into friday. i think by 1:00 a.m., most of that rainfall is off to the north. we'll see a widespread rain by 7:00 a.m. on friday. but this thing, it's going to get out of here quickly as we hit 10:30 in the morning. that moves on out. rainfall totals with it pretty impressive as we roll through friday morning half to three quarters of an inch for the north bay. east bay, a good part of the peninsula. south bay a rain shadow, a quarter inch or less. the seven-day forecast, you're going to see that system for the weekend, just starts to get going saturday night. i think it will pick up on sunday and then continue into monday morning, and that's when those three-day rain totals would range a half to about 2 1/2 inches. we could get another little small system by next tuesday. and then eventually some dry weath

bay area doing well overall. how does does that positivity rate have to get where you think some other counties can follow santa cruz's lead and lift some restrictions? >> so it's interesting how the cdc defines low, moderate, substantial, high, because they have two categories, and at some level, i don't actually think the case category makes as much sense, because there was an article on this in "the washington post" that people who are more likely to test are people probably who are more likely to have covid or have been exposed. the test positivity rate, because we do test at high rates, we do a lot of screening here in the bay area, is a good indicator of how low your cases are. so i like going on the positivity rate. i think it's reasonable. and remember, low transmission is defined as less than 5%. so 1% in santa cruz is way below what the cdc defines as the criterion for not needing to mask indoor it is you're vaccinated. again, doesn't mean that people won't mask, like you just said. and vulnerable and o

this is nbc bay area news tonight. i'm raj mathai. a lot happening on this friday. the umpire explains his not so accurate call. the ump, by the way, grew up in the south bay. his response to that giants game last night in just a few minutes. >>> but we start with three breaking news stories. at this hour, evacuations for some people in the santa cruz county area. a wildfire is burning across mount madonna between morgan hill and watsonville. you might be seeing some of the smoke in the south bay right now. so far, this fire has burned at least 120 acres. you can see down below just the intense flames, those orange flames. the fire retardant drops and of course the smoke. here's what we know. at least 120 acres burned. the fire started at a prescribed burn but somehow jumped out of control. an evacuation center has been set up. we've been getting reports you can see that smoke from a widespread region. the concern, of course, is the wind direction and the rate of spread. we're going to be getting an update from cal fire, we hope, within the next 30 minutes. we'll als

we are dealing with wind advisories on most bay area bridges. bay bridge, golden gate bridge as well. i will zoom in on 880 and you see we are tracking brake lights along 880. we have one accident north of fremont. in the fremont area 880 both directions still shut down due to flooding, standing water. there is a lot of that on major freeways, parts of 101 as you head into the city. we saw flooding there. keep in mind traffic lights are out in certain areas so if you are pulling up to an intersection where the traffic light is out, treat it as a four way stop. expect a lot of puddling, standing water, and wet weather as you hit the roads. not a lot of cars but we are tracking brake lights along the nimitz freeway, 880. let's check in with justin andrews. he is on 880 in fremont. look at the back up behind you. >> reporter: absolutely. we are on south bound 880. we couldn't even get to the flooded area because of all the traffic. it is backed up and goes for miles. 880 as you mentioned it shut down between thornton and i believe mallory avenues no

tonight, we still end up slightly above average for most parts of the bay area. mid and upper 50s by early tuesday morning and then high temperatures tomorrow, 5 degrees below normal around the bay and at least a couple degrees through inland parts of the bay area. upper 50s and low 60s along the coast already tuesday afternoon. low to mid 70s down the peninsula and around the south end of the bay, warmer in the center clara valley. clouds will not be quite a stick or quite as widespread. you the upper 70s in san jose and a few spots about 80 degrees mid and upper 70s by the tri-valley with warmest spots inland just a couple of degrees above 80 instead of the widespread 90s over the past few days. mid-60s and sentences go, mid and upper 50s through the east bay, clouds will be thicker and widespread for the northbay. temperatures there are only warming up to the low and mid 70s. approaching 80 degrees for inland mendocino county. the cooldown starts tomorrow but we don't reach lowest high temperatures until the end of the workweek on friday. those readings could b

the bay area, the rain not that far away.rolling in to northern california to begin with those storms start to really get themselves together. now and some of the beginning to make its way into the north. and how about that doppler radar picking up some moderate to some heavier amounts of rainfall in northern sonoma county and all this is going to be spreading to the south throughout the night and it's tomorrow morning and then we're going to really just kind of keep things going. here's our long-range forecast and this was really impressive. this first storm system coming through tonight going to kind of stall out over the bay area, at least the flow is going to stall out of the bay area. that means we'll see all this moisture continue to work its way through our skies. so even as the main cold front begins to dissipate. we've got all that moisture that continues to pummel right to the bay area bringing more rain on and off through wednesday and thursday. you can see these waves of energy, they'll be breaks in between these
