across the bay area. and the conditions are translating to powerful conditions off the coast. take a look at this video. this is new from pacifica, where waves are expected to get up to 45ft. we've got live team coverage. nbc bay area's kris sanchez is in gilroy with a look at the community dealing with some flooding down there. bob redell is in fremont, keeping his eyes on a creek as the water is rising. but first, meteorologist kari hall tracking where that rain is right now and the updated timeline for us, hopefully to clear skies sooner than later. yeah, it's going to clear out before we make it to the weekend, but we are still dealing with this brunt of the storm as it continues to bring in waves of rain. although some of the heavier rain that we had this morning has now moved to the south of us, and we're still seeing some off and on showers that's continuing across much of the bay area. some heavy rain now from san francisco, down the peninsula and into the east bay. and we're also going to see the

all across the bay area. we had some pockets of heavier rain earlier this morning, but that has since moved off to the east, and we're still watching out for the possibility that some of these downpours may also come with some rumbles of thunder and some gusty winds. we also have a wind advisory in effect. so a lot of impacts here as we see this storm system moving in very quickly. and that widespread rain all across the bay area. for san francisco it has gotten lighter. but because we did have the burst of heavy rain earlier this morning, there may be some standing water on the roadways. and just that reminder to never drive where water covers the road. you just don't know how deep it is. and we are also seeing that rain picking up from morgan hill to gilroy, and we just had so much in the north bay, we're at a surplus. even before this storm of 13in, we've already gotten our yearly rainfall. we've surpassed that. and that's the reason why we've had so many flooding issues in the north bay. but we are still

we're going to start with this new round of rain and wind that is slamming the bay area. w, a wind advisory does remain in effect, but those flood warnings have been downgraded. flooding in the north bay is now believed to have taken two lives. bay area agencies are urging people to take caution out on the roads. our cameras spotted that rainy commute earlier today from san jose all the way down south. let's take you outside right now. live where it is still coming down, but those downpours are turning into scattered showers. you can see even in san francisco. there on the upper right, the skies are clearing and our storm ranger is up on san bruno mountain tracking it all. the gre thing about storm ranger is that it's closer to the ground, so it gets you a scan that is better of your neighborhood. it means it sees all the rain, all the fog and smoke. taking accuracy to the next level. all right, let's take accuracy to the next level by beginning with our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. storm is clearing out. what's the rest of the day look like? well, i do think as we h

so cities throughout the bay area are preparing for tonight's storm. today in the bay's bob redell joins us with a look at what you're seeing in the south bay. good morning to you, kari. yes. they're clearing out the storm drains of gunk and debris to prevent flooding. for example, this underpass behind me here on santa clara street near the sap center. this is an area that tends to flood. so the city's department of transportation will be keeping an eye on this tonight, going into tomorrow, if they need to get in there and unclog whatever might clog up. this was the scene yesterday. workers with the city of san jose cleaning out more than 90 storm drains. this was in east san jose. sometimes doing this by hand, sometimes via a large vacuum trucks. there's so much debris. the city will also position portable pumps in areas that are prone to flooding up in the north bay, the santa rosa fire department tells us. evacuation warnings are still in effect for areas hit by landslides during last week's storms. that region has already seen around three feet of

the bay area is set to see another one two punch as a new storm moves in. the reason some people living in the north bay are on alert. good morning and thanks for joining us for our midday newscast. i'm marcus washington. and i'm laura garcia. we begin with our nbc bay area storm ranger scanning the skies above san bruno mountain as rain is set to move into the bay area once again tonight. yeah, but it's round two, which has some in the north bay on alert. meteorologist kari hall, of course. tracking that timeline for us. kari. and we are going to see a round of rain later on tonight. that's going to be very light. and not all of us will see that rain. but yes, the heavier rain is set to move in heading into thursday, and we will see the elevated landslide threat, mainly near the coast and in the santa cruz mountains. and we'll be watching the creeks and streams rise once again as we get all of this rain coming over a short period of time. and for the sierra, we're looking at about 2 to 5ft of snow before we hit the weekend. here's a look at our hour by hour

it will be a bay area wide event. t what's a little unusual about this storm is how hard it's going to hit the south bay. so that's where our marianne favro spent the day checking in with people about how they are preparing for what's going to be a lot of rain in a short amount of time. that other big story, of course, the start of the all star weekend. it's drawing in not just the best basketball players in the world, but thousands of fans, as well as both san fran to both san francisco and oakland. in those cities. security is going to be everywhere for these events. our sergio quintana runs down how they are securing the event, and you'll want to see this if you're thinking of attending, because there's stuff in there you're going to need to know. and janelle. so it's the all star weekend. but it's starting on wednesday. their defining weekends like i used to in college. oh it starts early. starts early starts on wednesday. yeah wednesday. it's a five day event. a lot happening in san francisco and in oakland. there

flood watches have now been extended across the entire bay area watching some of the places that have already flooded the russian river near guerneville mark west creek in the north bay. also green valley creek. but the santa cruz mountains is going to be hit, especially hard. i think with this storm system, we're looking at the san lorenzo river, possibly flooding there have to watch out for socal creek as well. so all around the bay area is the possibility of some flooding issues. you can see the rain just beginning to move onshore. some of the stronger bands starting to slide in now. and expecting some of that to really intensify as we head through the night. this is really just the beginning of some of these bands moving through some heavy rainfall making its way into parts of san francisco. now, much more off the coastline of fact. this a very intense storm are what's called the warm front. the cold front is going to come through a little bit later on. that is going to slam the entire state. will talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. but parts of the north bay saw the

once again, you can see all that rain moving across the bay area. eavy downpours, especially from earlier this morning. here's a look at that flood advisory in place and the flood warning indicating that we do actually have flooding happening in these areas. more a little bit more impactful up in the north bay as well, up in parts of sonoma county. we have that flood warning in place for today. so as we back out the maps here, we're showing you this. not only the rain here in the bay area, but a lot of rain. we have to keep an eye on the fire burn scars area, burn scar areas in southern california. they will pick up significant rainfall. and out toward the sierra as well. they have the winter storm warning. so just take it easy on the roadways. we still have some pockets of some heavier downpours out there, especially in the yellows and the oranges. you can see the live doppler sweeps picking up the current radar pattern out there. and as you can pick out in the south bay, scotts valley, santa cruz, out towards saratoga, mountain view, san jose, morg

we want to bring in our nbc bay area's thom jensen. yountville, where it looks like it's already wet. tom, good evening. jess. yeah, and yountville public works and the sherififf's deptment here in napa county are warning people about hopper creek and other creeks that they could come over their banks tonight. warning drivers here on oak circle that the creek could come over the bank and flood oak circle by the morning. the napa county sheriff issued a flood watch for people living in the oak circle area. it said hopper creek could flow into oak circle overnight and advise people to move their cars and trucks to higher ground. residents declined to comment in the neighborhood, and there were no signs of sandbags or other flood preparations outside homes or around some of the nearby restaurants that yountville is known for. farther west, in sonoma county, where rain is making for slick conditions tonight and possibly icy by morning, the storm drains are already beginning to fill up, and evacuation warning remain in effect for four addre

before the bay area, it is pretty steady for the north bay. and then we're also seeing the impacts of all of that rain causing some flooding on the roadways, as well as the potential of some more landslides and flooding in the santa cruz mountains, where it is really pouring at this point. and so as we take a look at what to expect, we are going to see that possibility of more flash flooding in the santa cruz mountains, some street flooding elsewhere, and ponding. that means it may be a very dangerous commute. and so, mike, you're tracking that with a lot of accidents on the roads. and we have a 48 incidents reported by chp already this morning. i'm tracking with them, most of them standing water, larger puddles from flooding. look at all the blue puddling and ponding. the green shows where it's at least wet. at least i'm most concerned about this. this leaves only one lane of westbound 580 open at redwood road. there was an earlier crash involving a semi truck which may still be there. reports of several inches of water across all but the fas

and later for the rest of the bay area. so cities are preparing for this. we head over to bob redell, who's watching this storm in the south bay. what are crews doing there? reporter well, good morning to you, kari. you know, many cities are preparing for this storm, and first responders are putting out the same warning they usually put out. they know they sound like a broken record when they say this, but they say when that storm comes in, especially during tomorrow's commute, if you are driving through a low lying area and you see water in the road, do not try to drive through it. turn around. for example, this underpass here on santa clara street by the sap center in san jose is known for flooding. it wouldn't be unusual if it did flood tomorrow. that's why the city of san jose's transportation department will be out here to make sure that if it does start to back up, that they can get it unclogged as soon as possible. yesterday, workers with the city of san jose, they cleaned out more than 90 storm drains in east san jos

first, another round of rain arriving in the bay area. bay is trying to clean up after round one. the soil in some neighborhoods is already completely saturated. tuesday's storm triggered a mudslide, which slammed into a north bay home that is now red tagged. this is in santa rosa's deer trail neighborhood. it's now under evacuation orders. the homeowner there says first responders rescued both his wife and his daughter. both, luckily, are fine. the home, meantime, will have to be torn down. sadly, he also tells us it's a rebuild from the home they lost in the 2017 firestorm. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking this incoming storm for us. and the rain that's already here. yeah, we are seeing it picking up on storm ranger for san francisco, south san francisco to the peninsula and moving over toward the east bay, watchingut for thunderstorms. and you can track it all through the nbc bay area app. thanks, kari. today is deadline day for federal workers who have to decide whether they want to resign their jobs, but still get paid until

gia vang nbc, bay area news. new at 11 tonight, redwood city leaders are joining a growing chorus calling for the removal of the embattled san mateo county sheriff. tonight, council members voted in favor of measure a. it could give the county supervisors the power to remove sheriff cristina corpus from office. leaders in millbrae, san mateo and san carlos have approved similar resolutions. now, sheriff corpus has repeatedly denied allegations from an independent report which revealed alleged abuse of power, nepotism and racism. voters will determine her future in a special election on march 4th. that measure would give county supervisors the power to remove her from office. a controversial debate in fremont about the homeless crisis. should it be a crime to help homeless people? fremont is on the verge of passing a first of its kind ordinance. the proposal has two parts. first, it would ban encampments on any public property and private property not specifically designed for camping. here's the curveball, though
