heat advisories for inland areas of the bay itself, south bay inland east bay and the in the north bayur daytime highs today. some of these numbers are actually pretty hard to look at, really, really warm. we've got low 80's and mission financial districts. that's not horrible but definitely warm for the city 60's and 70's at the coast. so pretty warm day bicoastal standards and then it's 90's to a lot of triple digits for much of the rest of us redwood city at 94 degrees today, south bay temperatures, 90's to triple digits. morgan hill, most cattle at 100 degrees livermore at 101 pleasanton right at 100 heyward up to 88 as you will also be in san leandro while that creek and conquered at 103, expecting clayton to get up as warm as 105, possibly. so those slopes of mount diablo, some of our very hardest vacaville in pittsburgh at 103, today, sandra fell at 102 for your daytime high. so some really hot temps today tomorrow and sunday will be much cooler. a certainly a break from the heat. as you can see, we waste no time getting right back to those triple digits ca monday of next week.

over to the east bay 87 concord 83 pleasanton, right near the bay 76 in hayward. coastline 63.5 moon bayd city were at 80. san francisco 68, in downtown and up here for the north bay, 81 in napa. so we're all good tomorrow. but as many of you know, this month really has just been so hot. we're getting some new numbers in. i wanted to share with you tonight. right now we're trending for the hottest july ever on record. that goes for santa rosa, oakland, hayward, livermore and also san jose. so yes, it's summer. july can be hot, but this looks to all time new levels on that 7-day forecast here in san francisco 60s into friday. then we warm it up a little bit here on saturday to 70. and for the inland valleys, we're going back into the 90s, wednesday, thursday, friday. then we'll get into some mid 90s this upcoming weekend and potentially 98 next monday. and real quick a closer look at that paris seven day 97 yes, one day event. it's going to be tough for the athletes that are doing stuff outside. and then some thunderstorm chances wednesday and thursday and we cool it off totally. european

bay area. right up there you see that it's only affecting about 150 customers in the bay area, but there are unplanned outages going on around the bay area. and as rob mayeda mentioned to us earlier, about 4000 people without power in danville. and we spoke to pg&e earlier today. you can see these power outages scattered around the peninsula and south bay and now in danville. that's because of unplanned power outages, something like transformers, overheating, equipment failure because a lot of people, there's a lot of stress on the power grid right now. and so they have to wait for those transformers to cool down before the power will go back. we saw this yesterday in the east bay. we had it in san ramon, dublin and pleasanton yesterday and now we're seeing it in danville. seems like the big concentration in the east bay. yeah. no coincidence. it's where the hottest temperatures are. and usually at this hour, the sea breeze comes in and starts to drop down those temperatures. but we don't have that outside right now. that's the big story moving forward, is that we do have these triple digit temperatures following us all the way thro

that's the in our communities in the north bay, the east bay and the south bay. he areas that you see there in orange now, right now, we're having a very pleasant day out there. and certainly you can see that even our spots inland. if we look, you know, across the state where we would normally see that triple digit heat there in the 90's today. so not bad at all. different story in las vegas where they're one 10, here locally, you know, quite lovely. upper 80's in a spot like fairfield or antioch. 86 in livermore with 77 in san jose. some beautiful 70's around the bay can see oakland sitting at 70 degrees. low 80's up in the north bay. and 64 in downtown san francisco. pretty nice. so as we get into the evening, we will start to see that marine layer buildin a little bit. but we're going notice tomorrow morning is that it's going press a little bit. so that means it doesn't get driven quite so far inland. and therefore, it will start to pull away and we'll get a little more sunshine and a little bit quicker possibly than today because of that compression of the ma

bay. east bay and south bay because of that heat tomorrow with those temperatures in the 90s to low one hundreds, i do see some lower humidity, a little bit of a breeze out of the north northwest here at 10 to 20. so that's going to keep the fire danger elevated. but we will get into some relief here through the mornings with this fog expected back at the coastline and also near the bay, maybe some spotty drizzle on the early side at the immediate coastline. but everything clears back here at 10:00 in the morning and right through the afternoon for that sunshine. and so we're going to set it up like this tomorrow morning down to 63 in the peninsula, a little bit warmer to start for the tri valley. you're going to be at 67. and we're also dipping down here to 64 in the east bay and 62 in the north bay. as we roll through tomorrow afternoon, we are again going to go hotter. so it's going to be noticeable after those 80s in the south bay. we're going to get you back up to 95. in los gatos, 92 san jose, upper 90s, morgan hill and gilroy. i do think we're going to get into some one hundreds out here

the days until the start of the olympics in a bay area man is hoping to sail through the competition. nbc bay area's joe rosato jr introduces us to this bay area sailor. the waters of the san francisco bay, fierce winds, unpredictable currents in other words, the perfect place to cut your teeth in sailing. being able to sail in those conditions and kind of raise your game and raise your level makes sailing in lighter air so much easier. hans henken was born in southern california, but spent most of his life sailing the bay winds. being able to come here as a kid and experience that and kind of grow to learn about it from a kind of a firsthand view was an amazing experience as a kid. henken had a couple dreams. the cliche thing as a kid, and you're asked when you're five years old is, what do you want to be when you grow up? and i wanted to be an astronaut. at the age of six, he discovered sailing and another dream was born. my biggest goal is to be able to compete at the olympic games. the two dreams came together at stanford university, where henken joined the sailing team while earning a master's degree in aerospace engineering. on the

bay area news. if you want to lose the jacket, just head across the bay bridge to the east bay. thank you very much, ginger. well, our microclimate weather alert team coverage continues as really fire danger poses a higher risk amid all of this heat. the governor and the chief of cal fire just delivered an update on the current wildfire season. and sadly, the news is not good. nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live and, bob, there's been fewer fires, but many more acres burned in 2024. you are correct. good morning chiller. during this virtual news conference that wrapped up earlier this morning within the past hour, governor gavin newsom and the chief of cal fire, they said that so far this year, there have been 3500 fire starts, including the one behind me here at the altamont pass in livermore. you compare that to last year, when there were 3800 starts and you're thinking, well, wow, this is great news. it's not because in the 3500 fires so far this year, close to 200,000 acres have been burned throughout the state of california. that's about 40,000 more acres than the same t

bay and the south bay. and let's focus on the south bay right now. san jose. you see 101. an jose to menlo park. 32 minute commute that morning congestion. we always see taking a look at drive times those who are getting up and heading out the door 5.80, livermore to dublin, 11 minutes 6.80, dublin to fremont. 14 minutes. a san leandro to milpitas. it's a 22 minute commute. if you're using to 37 milpitas to sunnyvale, it's a 7 minute commute looking at the antioch area. 28 minutes from antioch to concord. it's always congested there. hopefully that clears up again. normally at about 8 o'clock or so. you're using westbound 80 from crockett to the maze. it is a 16 minute commute. if you're using that bay bridge, those metering lights are going to be start going on. probably in the next 15 minutes. it's a 15 minute commute. into the city this morning. taking a live look at the richmond. sandra fell bridge. it's an 11 minute commute. there. the mateo bridge, 13 minutes to get over that. and lastly, that golden gate bridge, it's a 19 minute commute will continue to look at that

bay area. a live look at traffic across the bay area. all right. bay bridge toll plaza light, at least for the moment. it is that monday, after that long holiday weekend, people took advantage of. no doubt the roads are expected to be a little crowded today. maybe picking up if you're one of them. transportation data company intrec says the best time to hit the roads today. any time after seven tonight, the worst time between one in the afternoon and 5:00 tonight. here's a live look at sfo if you're at an airport in the u.s. yesterday, it was likely very busy. preliminary data from airports reveal the tsa screened more than 3 million passengers on sunday. final numbers are expected out later this morning. all right. let's take a look at the roadways right now with mike inouye. yeah. good morning. yeah. we are seeing a light volume right now at the bay bridge considering it's the bay bridge. but compared to last week, a lot more traffic and inrix, one of our traffic partners telling us watch for those folks still trickling back into town. but we have en

bay area so let's head to the south bay. our high temperature in los gatos will reach 99 degrees today. 93 in downtown san jose. and we're looking at for much of the east bay today up to 100 degrees 102 in livermore and 92 in fremont. it'll even be warm in oakland with some low 80s there, and will be in the low 80s for san mateo in half moon bay, 73 degrees. really nice. while san francisco, for the most part, will be in the 70s for today. downtown a little warmer at 78 degrees and 92, in santa rosa and in clear lake, 104 degrees napa today, reaching 97. i mentioned the humidity. so there is the remnants of a tropical system that's pushing some clouds and some higher humidity into the bay area for today. and across much of southern california and the region. now we're going to also with this, have the potential of some lightning strikes. and it's popping up on our computer models with some isolated thunderstorms over parts of the sierra, but also the little blue dots here indicate some lightning potential. and with that, any lightning strikes could spark new fires. and that will be of high concern for us for today as well as tomorrow as we get another roun

but the farther you go into the east bay, the south bay, the north bay, it is going to be dangerously hot with a major heat risk. and this is how these kinds of temperatures will affect your health. that's going to be one of the things you'll have to watch out for, especially without being properly hydrated throughout the day tomorrow. still hot, but not as hot. the heat is easing up a little bit, but we're still looking at a few spots reaching over 100 degrees and up to 110 farther north in clear lake and ukiah, and then for the weekend heading into saturday, it comes down even more and it will be comfortable for a lot of the bay area. so we'll be tracking that for you. mike, you were saying that crews are at work on the golden gate bridge. at least they get to work in the cooler fog behind me right here, folks, let's take this so you can see it better in the lower corner, right behind where it says nbc. we do have that crew getting ready to move that center divide. the sign says four lanes are open in the northbound side. that will change as they move that center. divide for that mo

bay. yeah, but it's not for folks driving the bay bridge that's moving very smoothly. right now across i-80. drivers are fine both back and forth between the city and the east bay. the issue is on the red line. if you were planning on taking the red line this morning, you will not. similar to last week, there's no red line service, but you can make a transfer at the macarthur station so you can get on board the train at your normal start point. you'll transfer over if you're going to millbrae or if you're coming back from sfo, you'll have to make a transfer as well. the signs will post the details, but basically you're going to have to make that bridge point at the macarthur station over here. now traffic on the roadway is very light today, right now, and probably continuing through much of the morning, not seeing any major issues, although there's a little slowing on the incline at the bay bridge. so there probably more traffic than yesterday when there was almost none visible on some of the cameras. south bay along the peninsula and easy drive over even out of here. look at the altamont pass, just like yesterday. no slowing shows up on 580 coming out of the alt

what was heat advisories are across the bay area to inland areas in the east bay, south bay and the north bay having excessive heat warnings and then heat advisories in the areas in orange that you see so what that means is those inland spots of the ones that are likely to get up to that triple digit heat. so we're talking about north bay up in the hills and then some of the valleys in the east bay and also the hills and mountains. same story down in the south bay 11:00am wednesday. that's when this all kind of kicks in and it finishes it 08:00pm on wednesday on 11:00am tomorrow morning. and it finishes up on friday at 08:00pm. so temperature trend wise, it really is going to the inner east bay that he's the brunt of this again. and i do think they could get up into some of those. you know, 1, 0, 3, 1, 0, 5, even 106, temperature ranges on thursday. tomorrow will be more low. 100 same story on friday. now north and south. they are going to be a little bit cooler just like we have been in the last run of heat. now, if you're looking ahead in your saying what next after this, i don't want a

bay. upper 90s. around san jose, san francisco, and oakland into friday. and notice saturday what looks to be maybe a second spike in those inland temperatures for the north bay. and the inland east bay. not much change in those inland temperatures as we head into the weekend. and this is the cause to that effect. strong high pressure essentially anchored right across northern california. not only is it not moving anywhere, it's unusually strong, locked in over us into the beginning of next week, which is the reason why any cooling will likely find this weekend might just be along the immediate coast and closer to san francisco, where we finally drop out of the chances of seeing 80s to 70s next week. but valley locations, triple digits across the board now through the weekend and keep an eye on that saturday forecast by the way, as we can see, those temperatures trying to climb up again to start the weekend and then cooling to the mid and upper 90s. yeah, cooling to the 90s due to the upper 90s. yes. stay tuned. hopefully better news this time next week. all right rob thanks a lot up next a new drug offering new hope for people with alzheimer's. what the fda is now saying about its e

bay, south bay. you can see down in the santa cruz mountains. we have dropped the heat advisory for the north bay and we dropped the heat warning. the excessive heat warning that we had going on yesterday. but until tonight, we're still kind of in this with the heat and no doubt you can see where that heat is. livermore 102 right now, fairfield, 100 degrees. we're doing much better in the south bay where you can see san jose's at 91 and were 95 in nevada. that's still well above average and a very, very warm to hot day. no doubt about it, but better than yesterday when we were so much higher up in those triple right now, though, 73 in downtown san francisco, one of the places obscene warm-up and also 68 are half moon bay. so we're having a pretty warm day out there as well. that marine layer has compressed. you can see that as we've got, you know, these beautiful blue skies right here at the golden gate bridge where we usually see some of that marine layer hanging out. you don't see it so much today. so tonight we're going to partly cloudy skies. we will see that marine layer start to relent a li

bay area task force to better combat the problem. bay area wide. if they could attack a uniformed officer like this, what could they do to everyone else? damian trujillo, nbc, bay area news. new tonight a record breaking hurricane powering through the caribbean. hurricane beryl has strengthened into the earliest category five atlantic hurricane on record. made landfall earlier today in the southeastern caribbean. tonight, an entire island is without power. the storm now making its way toward jamaica. it's expected to hit the island on wednesday. all right. rob mayeda joining us now with more on this hurricane. yeah. setting records for being the strongest this early in the year. usually a major hurricane like this you don't see until later in august or september, but not the case. july 1st winds sustained at 165mph, easily above the 157 threshold for a category five, will maintain that major hurricane status as it crosses around wednesday very near jamaica, before traveling towards the yucatan peninsula towards the end of the week. so the tropical weather very active closer to home. our microclimate forecast has warm temperatures outside tonight, hanging on to

bay area. but in one case, a mishap at a scheduled sanction event. this led to some tense moments out in the south bay today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for his morning. and ginger, we know things could have gotten a lot worse out there. that's right, marcus and chris. and thankfully firefighters got things under control. but it does show you just how quickly things can change. things can be sparked, especially with our current conditions. now, the professional fireworks show started around 920 last night at lake cunningham park in san jose. people were enjoying it, but then just a few minutes in, their attention turned to a small brush fire on the hill. crews got that out quickly, but then more flames popped up in other spots. council member domingo candles was also there. he says that he was prepared. they were prepared. the city of san jose, with firefighters standing by now part of the reason that this event was planned was that so there would be less of an incentive for people to use illegal fireworks. yet that does not always work. illegal fireworks are suspected of starting this fire in martinez, near central avenue. you can see tha
