approach the bay bridge toll plaza, just in the cash lanes, looks good now on the upper deck heading oadwork is all picked up. across the east bay most of the approaches to the bay bridge look good. here's a snapshot taken a couple of moments there near ashby but a clear drive down towards emeryville. 880/92 roadwork picked up. san mateo bridge looks good across the span both directions. the right side of the screen westbound 92 in the commute direction. 13 minutes from hayward to foster city. in the 4:30 hour we had the high street on-ramp to northbound 880 closed. chp has cleared the scene. the high street on-ramp is now open so quick trip all the way up into downtown oakland. and the rest of the south bay looks great. 101, 280, this is 280 traffic approaching the 880 interchange. in fact this is a nice ride towards cupertino, 101 just as smooth all the way up towards burlingame. mass transit we do have a little hiccup here with ace train number one still running about 14 minutes behind schedule. otherwise though bart, muni, caltrain, everything else is on time. once you do hit the

that center piece you are talking about the is tower for the new eastern span of the bay bridge. you can see traffic moving alongside that tower moving very smoothly. that is a goo thing. the concern is a little later on there could be slow downs on the bridge as we start to see activity happen on the tower right next to it. starting this morning crews will begin work to add a fourth segment to the top of the tower. it will make it 480 feet tall. here is an illustration from the bay bridge project. three of the towers are already in place. the tower will have one more smaller section to go and then it will be complete once tower is done then the process or stringing cables from the tower to the deck of the bridge will start. at 5:00 this morning we watched a barge pass underneath the bay bridge delivering equipment for the construction work today. the barge looks like it was carrying some kind of column like piece of equipment. to give you an idea of what that work might lookic, it will be similar to the work you are seeing in this video. news channel 2 was over the bridge last de

the bay bridge toll plaza, there is a wind advisory for the bay bridge, the carquinez bridge and the richmond san rafael bridge and look at the typical ponding as you make your way towards the tolls. the oakland maze heading there, so far the camera's shaking so gives you an idea how windy it is. no major problems here in the bay area but tahoe 80 has been closed eastbound to trucks. they did reopen it to cars a short while ago but so far you also need chains highway 50 and interstate 80 heading up to tahoe. amy hollyfield has been live at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning and she has been watching cars speeding through, heading towards the tolls and has great advice for us. >> hi, frances. we've got a body of water you mentioned, some ponding but it is receding a bit. cars are hitting it at full speed because there's not a lot of traffic out here this morning. take a look at these pictures of cars looking like they're getting hit off guard. looks like a big surprise to them. we're seeing big splashes but no problems. caltran dn't have a crew they could send over here. they're a

once it's finished it will be the center piece of the new eastern span of the bay bridge. that work is expected to start a few hours from now. three of the five segments are already in place. the fourth segment will be added to the top of the tower making it 480 feet tall. once that secondment is up -- you are looking at an illustration from the project website. crews will work around the clock starting today to get the fourth segment into place. the third segment was hoisted into place a couple months ago in december. the work expected to take place later on tea will be similar to that. a little later on cal tran is expected to have a press conference to give us an update and more details of the work that is supposed to start today. >>> san francisco police are investigating a shooting near the mission district. that happened before 10:30 last night on alabama street. once arrive on the scene they have seen several items on evidence on the road including pieces of clothing and shell casings. police say a 27-year-old man was shot while sitting in a car. an ambulance rush t
