let's go to the bay bridge. it's dry at the bay bridge. seen a little bit of slow traffic there, but it's kind of more on the normal side. no problems in oakland. things in the east bay are beginning to settle down a little bit, but it's still a little bit slow out there. you need to give yourself extra time for this morning commute. it's 803. let's go back to the desk. >> and the rainy weather is impacting local air travel as well. a live picture here at sfo. the faa is ordering a ground delay starting at the airport, beginning at 9:00 this morning. delays could average about 55 minutes due to low lying clouds. flightaware reports two cancellations and more than 100 delays at sfo. this includes both domestic and international travel. there's one cancellation to report in oakland, and seven southwest airlines delays there. san jose mineta is reporting 13 delays, severe weather slowing down air travel nationwide. this bay area rain, along with storms on the east coast having a ripple effect across the country. southwest airlines is telling

morning we have seen close to half an inch fall in areas like oakland and across that beautiful bay bridge over into san francisco. we're going to continue to add to the numbers especially down in the south bay where it's still falling pretty heavy right now. that rain throughout the next couple of hours. down into the santa clara valley right now, it's not that impressive near san jose. los gatos close to quarter inch there. but as we head into this afternoon, we'll continue to add to that. and then by this evening this might actually be just as heavy as yesterday's storm. so this is what it's looking like as we head into our first alert doppler. watch what happens as we advance the clock all the way into the next couple of hours after i show you this. right now, some of the heaviest storms are stretching from novato all the way down into -- excuse me, rio vista all the way down into fremont and dublin anddown into the santa clara valley. in the north bay it's more dry for us currently and that might not be the case within the next couple of hours show. that's coming up on futurecast. hay

a dense fog advisory for the san pablo bay, suisun bay and the san francisco bay, north of the bay bridgeand as we drove south on 101 a short time ago, we could see the fog settling into the north bay valleys. that's through the novato area this morning, although as the sun came up, it looked like it was starting to break up a bit in parts. but we spoke to a man in town from the central valley and he says he's very used to these kind of foggy driving conditions and knows what to do. >> you just have to drive slow. yeah everybody is slow, so you can't be rolling around at 80 miles an hour because somebody is going to be at like zero in front of you. so it's pretty, pretty different. >> and that's exactly what the chp is advising this morning. >> drivers should slow down, use your headlights and leave plenty of braking distance ahead of you . and important to use those headlights now that even though the sun has come up because of the visibility reduced visibility, national weather service says it's less than a quarter mile in some spots. there's also heavy fog on the bay bridge as well as

so certainly it's going to be a slow go as you approach the bay bridge toll plaza with that dense fog, even lower visibility in the north bay, we're down to zero miles. visibility in petaluma and novato with those dense fog advisories lasting until 10 a.m. this morning. so use your low beams out there with that fog extra distance while you're driving between the cars around you. that fog is going to lift after 10 a.m. for bright skies, but it certainly creating some issues. first thing this morning, here is the bay bridge toll plaza showing you that low cloud cover out there. so we'll have that dense fog advisory in effect until about 10 a.m. that fog begins to lift. and we do have a bright afternoon on the way. it's a nice finish and it's a little bit warmer today compared to yesterday. we'll get our temperatures into the mid 60s for the most part. your sunset, by the way, coming at 450. so we have that early morning dense fog lifting after 10 a.m. and then we'll turn to partly cloudy skies this afternoon in those temperatures in the mid 60s. we do have rain in the seven day forecast

from san francisco across the beautiful bay bridge into oakland. ad a little bit more south, concord, antioch, all throughout the east bay into the santa clara valley, it's a mild day for us. it is breezy and i will say that along the higher elevated areas so mount diablo stretching all the way down into the mountains just around the santa clara valley, we can see wind gusts anywhere up to around 30 miles per hour today. lighter conditions though once the system moves its way out. now as the system moves its way out we're left with partly cloudy skies starting tomorrow lasting into the rest of this week. into the weekend with sunnier skies by saturday. just in time for any last-minute holiday travel. because right around the corner it's christmas eve and christmas day and we're expecting upper 50s and lower 60s from here on out lasting throughout the rest of this week's forecast. and into next week too. very similar trend for our friends along the bay. cool as we head into the weekend but hey, at least it's going to be dry which means great conditio

reported by chp and people out on the roadways and you can see live here at the bay bridge toll plazay soggy out there this morning. so be extra careful on the roadways. some of the hotspots in the east bay westbound 585 near park. that on ramp there's a traffic collision there on -- again on and off ramps as you exit the enter the freeways be extra careful. as you make those curves. sometimes people take them a little too fast. they get reports of spinouts on the roadways and that makes it pretty tough out there. headed westbound 580, over towards 880, we have reports of an accident there as well. that's just as you work your way towards the maze at the bay bridge. and if you are headed along the peninsula, pretty slick surfaces out there also. 101. 280, 280 southbound at edgewood. there's an injury crash there. looks like traffic is backed up and you have got activity with a vehicle stuck on its side. so be extra cautious through there. >>> flooding is a big concern on rainy days like today. and the city of san francisco is offering free sandbags to protect your home and businesses

that's the bay bridge shrouded in fog this morning. >> the difference of fogs in the bay area.s not just carl. there's tule fog so was that tulo fog that we just saw and is the tule fog the one that comes from the ground. >> it's interesting so fog does start at the surface level. and yeah, we're experiencing tule fog especially out there in the sacramento valley where that's a lot more prominent. but back here in the bay area some fog too. i have it out here on the virtual reality map this morning to show i what it's that's looking like. this is a live look from the black mountain cam overlooking the santa clara valley. and this morning, down there, it's a little bit higher than the surface level. so it's not really impacting surface level visibility. still take it slow out there on the roads. now where we're seeing a lot more issues is the more north we go. the more north we go closer to areas like petaluma and vallejo into napa and sonoma, pretty much dealing with the dense fog advisory until 11:00 a.m. that's been issued by the national weather service. oh by way here's the
