bay. a child was hit and killed at a mall. ktvu's janine de la vega is here to tell us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the accident happened in the parking lot of the oak ridgel where you see the theater. it's there where you see the flashing lights. police tell us that, at 9:30 last night, a young boy was walking with his family in the parking lot when he was hit by a car. paramedics rushed to the scene to try to seat boy but he ended up dying at the hospital. the driver did remain at the scene and is cooperating. police talked to us about the driver's reaction. >> as with anything like this, they are distraught but, ski, -- still, like i said, that's an unfortunate occurrence. >> was the driver backing up, was he speeding? was he under the influence? a very sad situation. we plan on reefing out to police later to get more information. >> still lots of unanswered questions. thank you for that update. >>> happening toyed, california's vaccine law goes into effect but there are still parents taking extreme measures to fight it. bay area news report that some parents are home schooling their kids, finding underground doctors or leaving the state altogether. pa
