boulevard, not too far from the 19th street oakland b.a.r.t. station. >> nbc bay area's cierra johnson has been following this breaking news. police just spoke a few moments ago. what are they saying about this? >> reporter: yes, marcus. the chief armstrong did keep his remarks about the situation short, but right now we do know this. 911 calls stem from a neighbor concerned about the erratic behavior of a man at the 2400 block of telegraph avenue. so take a look at this video. f. chief armstrong says the situation started around 6:30 this morning. that's when officers responded to reports of a man armed with a firearm on telegraph avenue. officers made contact with that individual a few blocks away. it was then that suspect fired shots at responding officers hitting one of those officers. that injured officer did return fire hitting that suspect. now from there, the suspect barricaded himself inside of a location at the 21nd block of mlk boulevard with a knife. officers, as well as a mental health team were able to establish communication with that individual and
