inland, 77 bayside and right around 69 degrees at the coast. and that's pacifica, half moon bay, i'm forecasting closer to 80 degrees in santa cruz this afternoon so i'll take you through that forecast. we've got a big-time warmup as we head through the next four days. first let's get a look at your drive. good morning, mike. >> look at this view of the san mateo bridge from the hayward toll plaza. it's a nice, clear view but then on the peninsula side you see how things change dramatically even across the span of the bridge. on the foster city side, the san mateo approach, we can hardly see the folks with the headlights in the westbound direction facing 92 from just shy of 101 here. so lower visibility. we're also looking at another live shot -- these maps, the realtime sensors here show the speeds are just fine through the area, but again the orange overlay showing where the fog and drizzle might affect your roadways. 280 and 101 through that same area definitely will be affected. 101 up into the city is just fine as far as speeds go. a live

we're only forecasting 70 inland today. 67 bayside, 64 at the coast. we'll take a look at the pumpkin festival in hoof moon bay as well as oktoberfest in campbell. 6:10. let's check your drive. hi, mike. >> a lot is happening on your commute unfortunately. we're looking at oakland 880. look at these lights glowing because there's moisture in the air. christina is talking about impending rain. we're looking at 880 with all the slowing. look at all these lights southbound side. we still have a sig alert. it looks like they may have just started to move cars from lanes. that might be why we're seeing a little less of a backup. but from 980 down to 23rd, we have a big packup coming out of downtown. more problems getting other the bay bridge now that there's a stall on the san francisco side of the upper deck. it does look like things are starting to move past it as well. we don't have any severe backups at the toll plaza but the cash lanes are backing up. in the city at the squat and gobble restaurant, the k and m lines are blocked by fire activity in the

downtown, everybody from second street down to the inlet on the bayside and from 11th on the baysidesn't have power. they shut that power off as a proactive move. pretty cold for those folks. hopefully, not too many people there because the area below 17th street was under mandatory evacuation. we were told some 200 people did stay but then last night, crews went in and had to rescue 20 to 30 people because of the highed into waters, several feet of flood waters there in the downtown area. further north, also some damage. around 54th street, there was a restaurant, mackey's, flood water up almost to my knees. then also, i was told by the emergency management center that near street 130, there is a housing complex called montego bay. apparently, those homes flooded now and they are dealing with that currently. the roads headed into ocean city, route 09 and route 50, closed to inbound traffic. all of the street here south shut down. that will remain the case. it is just too dangerous out here. they want folk that remain in the area to stay indoors. win picking up here and it is rather

turn around and headed up coastal highway, where there was evidence of extensive flooding on the bayside. debris was everywhere. we noticed utility crews got a jump early, but according to del mar power, there were no reported outages in ocean city. when damage was everywhere you looked. a side of the hotel was completely blown off. beach erosion was extensive, too. 9-13 foot waves manage to erode away a good portion of the dune system that the city had put in place to protect properties. in the end, everyone we spoke to had a sense of relief knowing that things could have been much, much worse. >> we see snow and sand, it is kind of crazy. just really weird. >> i cannot believe how cold it is and i cannot believe the pier is gone. i cannot believe the santa got all the way up to the boardwalk, either. that is crazy. -- i cannot believe the sand got all the way up to the boardwalk. >> business is trying to get back to normal. that is the latest from ocean city. rob roblin, i hope you are drying out over there. >> things are looking a lot better here. could have been much worse. that is w

the bar and restaurant at the bayside got hit by hurricane sandy. >> the gazebo is gone. the boardwalk, they were starting to rebuild is in the parking lot. >> reporter: they were able to salvage the angels and said it will go on the new one. most of it is confined to things downstairs. >> it's my livelihood. goto clean up. >> reporter: they hope to open by this weekend. a large section of ocean city's pier has been falling victim. there was a mandatory evacuation order for downtown ocean city and portions remain flooded. but slowly the city is coming back to life and surfers have taken to their boards as well. some are searching trying to find things that slain di may have left behind -- sandy may have left behind. >> i have not found anything, but i'm hoping i will. >> reporter: the cleanup is already underway. the mayor said all the roads in ocean city are back open again. remember, they had shut down everything below 17th street. that is back to normal and visitors are expected to come back starting tomorrow. christian schaffer, abc2 news. >> great job. again, school

on the bayside of town, more than 60 blocks were totally under water. >> where would you rather be? ocean city or garrett county? >> either wind -- -- either one. we talked about the impact more to our north and why it would be significant here. you see those aerials of new jersey, the power of this storm is truly historic. here is how we saw the end of the day here when we had those passing sprinkles and folks were grumbling about the chilly. we had to worry about the heat and humidity. now it is the cold. 42 degrees. folks would be right at home if this were the middle of december. as cold as it was here, look at our high temperature. burlington vt. -- 70 degrees today because of the scope of the star. let me take you back 24 hours and watch the spin in the atmosphere, this huge whirlpool board text that was a tropical system that came together with this other way coming through. and now all of that moisture, hill of the tropical moisture is heading out into maine. it is warm rain main right now than it is in washington and certainly warmer than the mountains of west virginia. tho

mid to upper 40s now for bayside communities. back out to the west upper 20s and low 30s this morning. sub freezing for nearly every spot out to the west of the blue ridge and even a few pockets of sub freezing temperatures in prince william county, northern montgomery county, out toward frederick, maryland as well. be on the lookout for a little extra chill first thing this morning. it is going to be a beauty of a day to be outside today. nothing but sunshine. not much of a breeze today. unlike yesterday that was a bit of a fierce wind yesterday afternoon. that wind is going to continue to lay down today and allow temperatures to recover into the upper 50s and low 60s. there's the freeze warning. primary concerns are here for about the next hour or two. still some patchy frost in and around parts of fairfax and prince george's county. not much of a frost threat inside the district. no rain expected today and no rain really expected tomorrow either. our next chance for showers coming back in arrives on monday afternoon. probably

are not only getting the surge coming over the dern -- the dunes, there is one coming off of the bayside as well, spilling over into coastal highway. if you go to my twitter account, you can see the pictures i took earlier as we were driving away. these pictures, you will not believe where the water is. 17th street and south is closed. there are other portions that are also closed. last night we learned that the rte. 50 bridge into the city was closed and remains closed. the rte. 90 bridge is open. however, there is flooding at the base want to get into ocean city. police are not letting traffic goes south. they are making exceptions for media and emergency personnel. keep in mind, if someone is coming into the city for some reason, be prepared, you will only be able to go north once you come off the roof 90 bridge. we were driving out and about and noticed the flooding that you see here is anywhere from 1 feet to 3 feet deep in the upper sections of the city. i am talking about the 30's to up north. some of the areas are seeing more significant [no audio] >> unfortunately, that is inevi

we're seeing flooding on the bayside, some backyards and homes seeing several feet of water. we're seeing streets as well through the area with a foot and a half or more of water. they are impassable. but as you mentioned perhaps the most significant damage, the most memorable damage so far from this storm has been to the fishing pier here in ocean city. about half of it has just been wiped away. it took a beating from all of the heavy surf overnight and all day today. when they came out today to take a look at it, you can see it has just washed away, the pilings buckled under the power of those avs, and it continues to take a beating now. i would expect we see more of that pier to collapse into the ocean as the hours go by. at this point, what we are seeing in ocean city is that about half of the town here is essentially cut off. they have traffic that has been cut off from the route 90 bridge all the way south. they have also cut off electricity as a precaution, because we are seeing flooding in the southern end of the town here from 11th street south along the oceanside. t

we even noticed flooding by midday on the bayside. >> we think the real issues will be in the downtown areas. if we do see tide levels we expect, we could lose power in that area. that causes problems for the residents in that area. >> the threat of the impending storm is enough to get people to board up on the boardwalk. >> is going to blow. we're going to get something out of this. hope it is not too bad. >> as far as storm watches, we found many at a familiar but dangerous side. we're at the inlet at the end of the boardwalk, typically one of the best places to watch a hurricane come in. you can see the waves crashing against the rocks. unbelievable what we are seeing. wind gusts up to 55 miles an hour counting down here. you can see the surf moving up. we understand from officials they will probably shut this area down before this airs. be careful if you are coming down to the inlet. it is very dangerous. we're noticing a lot of people coming down here to take a look. be careful if you are down here. the wind is pounding. it is a very dangerous situation. >> it is unbelievable. it
