i am eddie part of the bayview program. i want to say that our program is the only program out here to service with youth dealing with multicultural youth programs. and we are fortunate to get support from the city and to be out here. and all due to the attention that happened three years ago when there was a lot of african, asian tension out here, because of misunderstanding. we want to focus on young people. and we have our second summit where youth come together and organize it. and the theme they come up is called usla, a way to address trauma and stress. and the young people came up with this idea and put together addressing the trauma and the stress they deal with every day in district 10. and another thing we need more programs dealing with employments where asian and hiring african-americans and job training and latino population. to create programs and funding to reflect the population in district 10. we know that justification happens because of development, but we know that the city wants to invest in the communi

i raised a family in bayview. and when i went into the construction business there were 150 black contractor and today there are three. let me tell you how that happened, the white people in this city has gone on a journey to run every black person out of san francisco. when the population was 28% black, and today it's less than 6%. i know that a lot of black people have good jobs. and you think that everything will be all right as long as you beg these white people for money. but they are not interested in us as black people and they are not going to do much for you if anything. they have taken all the money out of the programs. they have run every black contractor out of san francisco. and the biggest insult i had today, that i come in here and they have signs in the place, spanish on this side and cantonese on this side. i have lived a lifetime of negro in the black and you know it will be about our color. you see you don't know how white people do us, why we don't have nuthin now. the highest place for black p

that's bayview, that's potrero hill, visitacion valley, it's a little hollywood, it's dogpatch.t used to be the portola, half of it. my heart is still with you, but i'm glad like the speaker said, it is whole. and that is what's important, is that that neighborhood remains whole so that our city will be whole. you agree? [cheering and applauding] cheers >> so, a few years back there was this little idea to take back the bayview and really began to rewrite the history and the narrative that we often hear about in bayview. and it actually started, ironically, with a small little abandoned swath of land that has grown up to become the cuseda garden. and it's the thought child and the physical manifestation of hard work, of a few community leaders that got together and rolled up their sleeves and got to work. and tonight i have the honor to introduce one of the co-founders, his name is jeffery betcher. where are you? get up here. and jeff is going to introduce to you as he escorts ms. annette young smith to the stage. this lady, ladies and gentlemen, is a lifetime achievement award

i am the executive director of bayview hunter's point senior services. i was trying to think of what part of our agency it talk about. i want to talk about the most vulnerable seniors we know. mr. boston said what i needed to say about housing. that's pretty much the deal. our agency sees seniors like him all the time. constantly, consistently looking for housing and can't find it. we need more support services to help people and to help people a app apply. a lot of people don't know where to find housing or where to start. we are trying to focus on that with seniors. and i want to talk about senior exit center, that looks out for ex-offenders. those are the people coming back, relatives and sons and daughters and uncles and aunts that are out of jail and prison and need a place to stay. and we can't find them a place to stay. we can get them transitional housing for three month and then nothing. and lastly i want to talk about the adult center, that serves a lot of vulnerable people. i want to thank the mayor who helped out last year, and we still need

the bayview apartments open up 25 years ago. i moved in in december, 24 years ago, 10 months later we had the little earthquake of '89. i don't want what happened in my neighborhood to continue to happen in other neighborhoods, basically unregulated rent and noise. so with that let's go to the overhead angle back to our global birds' nest village;

we were in the western addition in bayview, we were in the sunset. a number of organizations, and i don't want to call them out individually because i'll forget some that were really commit and had did a lot of work. i won't say that ultimately all of their findings or all of their positions about the police department were ones that i found to be in total agreement with, but i will say it is inspiring to watch members of a community participate in the process. and i think that this is a good example that when people with fresh eyes, as commissioner turman explained it better than i did, the two of us and the chief listened and struggled with what's going to you -- ultimately keep our officers safe and the community safe, i think we reached a consensus this is the right path moving forward. so, thanks to the chief and thanks to my fellow commissioner turman and chan. >> commissioner de jesus. >> in this whole process, i attended one meeting in the tenderloin. but i want to thank our committee members on the commission for putting in all that time and

he is espinola jackson, bayview hunters point. i would like to say when i registered to vote -- and i've been voting for 55 years now -- i would like to think that when i do vote for an ordinance that it counts in the city and county of san francisco. when i received in the mail -- i hope i got it right here, you can see it. i got this yesterday. i was very upset because i remember it was either 1974 or '76 that sue hester put together an ordinance and the citizens of san francisco voted for it and it passed dealing with the height limits to be built here in san francisco. the height limit was 60 feet. after that was done, we came back, there was another ordinance put together by sue hester, because we were in the planning for the executive park. and i wanted a hotel, and i knew it was going to be more than 60 feet. but we supported the first one as well as the only area in san francisco is the executive park, bayview hunters point, that can be built over 60 feet. and when people o
