davis meant he was a forward thinker and thinking about bayview in the day and bayview has changed and is different but he was thinking about it 20 years ago. and this took 20 years. and later on i'm going to talk about the beautiful people and how they've helped us and supported our organization but it was really dr. davis is the reason we're here so i want to remember that and to know we're his legacy to carry it forward when he passed it had to be hundreds and hundreds of people to make this day happen and you'll hear about that. to get to this day so a lot of other things i want to say the other things i want to say something about this housing it's going to be for the seniors in bayview. it was advocated for the seniors and dr. davis would want me to say how the seniors can get in it. bouquet it the day to take a maker i went to denny's when something big happened but we'll have to go to denny's. the first time popcorn i'm going to introduce is dr. william walker the longtime advocate when people didn't bother with us he's the chair of directors and he would help us. i am the executive director at bayview hunters point community legal. we are a new nonprofit. we're trying to -- by working with dozens of partners, law firms, pro bono programs and private attorneys, we're trying to create a universal system of access of services in bayview hunters point. everybody gets representation no matter what their income s. we do this without any city funding. thanks to the support of hundreds of individuals and, you know, just great attorney that work with us. our biggest practice area is housing law and we think it's growing. we have everyone with all the issues, but the main issue that comes to us is landlord tenant law. and we see tons of landlords trying to take advantage of tenants either by threatening walk outs, by harassing tenants out, by doing retaliation against tenants that submit petitions, and otherwise trying to get tenants out of their homes without having to deal with the unlawful detainer system. and we should recognize that landlords have a particular incentive to do this in san francisco because of the rent control laws, right? if

our ambassadors from the bayview are from the bayview or currently live in the bayview and represent the diversity in that neighborhood. because it was so well received by the community the mayor asked us to expand if program in 2011 as part of that area which has revitalized that area which is a very high profile need in the part of the city. our central market community ambassador team has been around since 2011. this team is unique in that it is really viewed as a job training team. we partner with the human services agency to hire san francisco residents. we try to hire from the community and place them to work in the community. our group of ambassadors, currently we have 12 that work in the central market area from 5th street to valencia and we look at going about a block or two on i -- either side on market street. it's to visible -- that's the goal. we categorize into three major categories, general assistance whether that's helping someone on or off a muni vehicle with bags or lunge -- luggage and tourism information and referrals. if they come to a homeless individual or bus

nothing is being done in bayview hunters point and there is a reason. it's by design. willie brown, when he became mayor, he had never been to hunters point, but he saw ah this beautiful scenery and the sun coming up. and he said, oh, this is a good place for big development. and guess what? it started. one of the other reasons we have is the managers, that the redevelopment gave to us back in the '70s. john stewart, he's evicted mostly all the people out of public housing. i've asked you all to come out and just take a look at what is going on out there, and the housing that is being built, you wouldn't want your dog to live in it. thank you. >> thank you. is there any other member of the public who hasn't spoken? seeing none, mr. chairman, i think public comment is closed. i saw kids being sent away to prison for doing things in bayview hunters point that my classmates were doing at yale law school. i saw my classmates smoking dope at yale law school. they didn't go to prison. but i saw kids the same age down here at bayview hunters point that still have not come back, and that bothered me. and i took my law degree to try to do something about it, and i burned out. it was too hard. i went to too many funerals. i'm not as strong as my mentors and elders. too many funerals. too many young people laying in kass lets and grown folks sitting up in the peughs with white hair. do that enough times, it does something to you. ~ caskets. and i started to look at myself, what could i do to make a positive difference to make a better future for these young people? and there was one person i was able to reach out to who was able to help me get through that situation and come up with a months ~ positive answer. her name was juliet ellis. she joined the board of the baker for human rights [speaker not understood] and helped that organization. turn around for just a pol
