of the six, four occurred in bayview. the captain of bayview actually held a community meeting yesterday with our commander of the actually golden gate division who's covering the metro division, as well, this week. but what came out of the meeting is we don't believe these shootings are related. even saying that, though, they are concerning. six shootings and four in one district are concerning, so we are making some patrol adjustments and personnel adjustments so we can figure out what to do. we're going into the summer months, so things get a little bit busier in terms of violent crime. each captain and the commanders have constructive summer violence reduction plans, and those will be put into full effect now moving forward through the summer. so there's no particular connections with these shootings, but four is a lot for one area, and that is concerning, so we'll keep an eye on that. in terms of general crime, there is one significant which actually was an aggravated assault and hit and run. it was somewhat of a roa

she's known for her work in the bayview. she her story is one of african-americans in san francisco. the one different neighborhoods she got to experience and as a result, understand the tragedies involved in displacement as well as the environmental and injustices that apolitical afflt communities of color. she can tell about the rise and fall of community. which are very rare. in 2001, marie was hired by the organization and environmental justice. one of the first ever environmental justices granted issued by the department of environment. the purpose of the grant was to conduct outreach on energy efficiency issues as well as renewables for the community. she also empowered residents to advocate for the shutdown of the power plant which was a long time in our justice struggle in the bayview. my own personal experience with her was through -- try to include environmental communities. marie would he's state t -- hesitate to put departments and other elected officials on blast despite receiving funding for them. she told the

[applause] >> good evening, commissioners. my name is brandy markman. i'm the parent of a first grader in the richmond district. i'm really excited about the model that is presented in the resolution to have a full-time teacher in each school. i attended a school -- small school out of state that has a visual arts teacher who is also our drama coach, and i never saw myself being in a high school play, but because i had that relationship with her -- it was a k through 12 school, i wound up participating, and i think that's really key. i know we have vapa teachers who go from schools to school. at sutro, the majority of our families are immigrant students. we are very different from peabody, six blocks away. one of the things we need to do to eliminate the quality gap is to have better teacher-student relationships. i served as a program evaluator at sfusd and oakland and other programs in the district. it is common practice for boards to set policy and then programs to fall

the work that we do in bayview schools that isn't happening in other schools.hen i look and see that 34% of african-american students are in one area of the city, it makes sense that we are prioritizing, you know, a lot of our efforts of the schools celebrate black culture and black history, that when you are in a neighborhood like mine, where my kids went to school, where one -- where 1% or 2% of students are black, it seems to be, like our district currently feels like it is optional to celebrate black history and when our history books -- also, you know, they contain racist content about native americans, you know, my daughter did not learn about reconstruction, they didn't even learn about the civil war, so, you know, i'm telling you all this, and you know this is going on, it is not like a new thing, but i would like to understand, if we are going to hire somebody new, we have an amazing team, you guys are doing really good work, you know, with individual teachers and individual families , but i want to see systemic change, and i want to see this in school

i am also a resident of district 10 in the bayview and having since 2006. i am very aware of educational issues in san francisco unified as well as being a community member understanding many of the issues facing parents that have young children. in addition to that, i will briefly go over some of my call fixes because i have been -- my call fixes. i have been in education for 30 years. i don't want to bore you with those details. in my career, i have been principal of -- i was one of the first principals of a co-located site in the san francisco school dresdistrict. i was one of the first schools to embrace having an early childhood classrooms at my school. in addition. i had one of the first special ed includes classrooms at sheridan school. also, i was early child heard principal at stand alone site in sunnydale. you know some of the challenges of our families in these areas and the importance of making sure the families in the san francisco community, especially in our challenged areas like bayview know about the early childhood resources and get the su

we're adding funding for our career training facility upgrade in the bayview hunter's point at 1400 evans. we propose to the board of trustees last time that we would take $27 million in proposed bond funding to ren foe renovate evans campus at bayvie bayview s point. we're offering more programmes with the city and that wonderful programme that's been going on for over ten years and for career training programmes for middle-class jobs. middle-class jobs are not just a slogan. 1*bs. our airport campus is full to the brim if a fairly full facility and we train aircraft trans ministertransmissions to m and when he come out, they will come out with a job that pays $100,000 a year. so those are the programme we're adding. we is an important campus that's in the heart of our social justice surface and right in the heart of the ter tenderloin andt has been closed five years because of a need for a seismic retrofit. we recommended to the board we reopen it and we have secured funds from the state to reopen the tenderloin campus and to actually expand our service in that area. transitional studie
